I know that potty training has been discussed here and there but I think it may be helpful to everyone to have it all in one place.
With DD turning 18 months soon, I'm really trying to make an effort to familiarize her with her potty. My current plan is to bring her to the toilet when she is obviously going, especially since she can now tell me "poop" when it's showtime. I'm trying to toilet her before baths as well and would like to incorporate diaper free time to help identify what pee is...since I have no idea when she's going.
Any advice or tips and tricks to familiarize toddler to potty is helpful. How does everyone feel about rewards for a successful potty trip? Cloth training pants?

Has anyone used the Charlie Banana trainers? They are on target.com. just wondering if they would make life a little easier when DD gets the hang of what to do? And then I'm not buying diapers for 2 kids? ?
What brand pull ups are they? Do they need any kind of cover? I guess they are really more for catching drips in the event they can't get to potty in time as opposed to a full on accident...I don't know, I'm clueless. But I feel like cloth is a good idea for training because of ease of pulling up/down, cost and with a baby on the way. The outside potty is a good idea. I didnt even think of that!

We bought gerber brand training pants at target for DS. They're basically like thicker underwear. I've seen them for girls too, but haven't gotten them for DD yet. I got waterproof covers (also gerber brand) off of amazon to add a layer between the pants. They don't work 100% , but they keep the pants from getting as wet as they could.
Omg- so tonight I throw her on the potty chair before bath, because I'm going to start there. Well it lasted the expected 5 seconds. So there we are, batheing, and she does her squat in silence which I'm learning to associate with her pooping due to her now multiple pooping in the tub incidents. She stands and I check between her cheeks and get a whiff of stank, so I put her on the potty chair again. Well, she tears off into the living room laughing...and pooping. A trail of turds through the living room, which I promptly made DH pick up while secretly pleased that it wasn't in the tub for me to clean out and start over.
Oh, the adventures of parenting. ?
And yes, I saw them come out while she was running away. That takes talent, me thinks.

For sure - I keep laughing every time I think about it. She is going to be mortified when she's older and I use the story to tease her - lol!!!
I'm laughing so hard!! I'm glad I'm not the only one with ridiculous poop stories!! And I totally would rather clean it up off the floor than from the tub, too!

So my kid constantly says "I poop" even though she hasn't. I'm starting to think she's telling me when she's peed, too, and she just doesn't get the difference. Which puts me in a dilemma. I'm not changing her diaper every time she pees a little. That would be like 12 diapers a day.

I am working hard at potty training my stubborn 4y old this week. The girls tell me when they're pooping or already pooped, and asking to try, meanwhile DS is just like "No, I don't need to go potty." Then poops in his training pants. Yup. Pretty sure the girls are going to train first, or maybe they will all train simultaneously (lmao. Not counting on that, but one can wish?)
anotherdreamer, LT for solidarity. I bought DD a potty this week (for DS we just did a kid seat on the toilet). The new potty plays a "royal song" when there's pee in it. DS now always asks to go potty on "sister's potty" and when it plays a song he gets a big grin and says "I went potty," but still poops in his pants (though he hasn't pooped at all for 2 days so at least I've had a break from cleaning the training pants).

DS has been peeing some since he figured out how, but poop... nooooo.
FFFC? I started a potty chart, a sticker fit every successful attempt to go, and I told him that when he fills the chart all up that we would take him to Chucky Cheese. He's never been so the novelty is driving him, and he likes picking out a sticker.
Annnnddd he just came up saying he needs a diaper change because he pooped. I had him on the potty 10 minutes ago. #parentlyfe
How many potties do I need? One for each bathroom?
I kinda wanted to go straight to the big potty with a little seat- would that work, or do I need a tiny potty?
DS was scared of the big potty so we got a potty chair. Obviously didn't do us much good lol, but some kids are scared of the big potty.
We have three kids in diapers but we bought a seat (not chair) for each bathroom. I didn't want to keep carrying it up/down the stairs so it was just easier.

We did the seat for DS (as I mentioned). He did pretty well with it, though we had to have him sit backwards on it (we told him like he was riding a horse) because when he sat facing the right way and tried to tuck his penis down we were still having too much spillage and what not. Sitting backwards let him aim better. Now he stands at it instead of sitting. We got the little potty for DD because we're starting her younger than we did with DS and the few times in out her on his seat on the toilet she freaked out.
We only have one seat and one little potty because of the layout of our home. They never use our bathroom upstairs (upstairs is only our room and DH's office). They don't use the half bath by the kitchen either because at that point it isn't that far away from their bathroom. If we had a different layout (kids bedrooms/bath on a different floor from main living area) we'd probably have multiples.
We have one, but we also only have one bathroom. We got a potty chair because we wanted her to be able to sit while we sit, but hope to move to a ring seat on the toilet eventually. We got a ring seat and a different (larger) potty as hand-me-downs. We might put the bigger seat in her room as she gets bigger for night time use.
