Did you join a gym that has classes? When I went to a regular gym, I'd do the weight machines a couple days a week, and then 2 classes a week. Usually a Zumba and then a weight training class like Body Pump.

As nice a s napping in the locker room sounds, you could do that at home for free ;-)

Oh - and ask an employee how to use the machines safely. It's their job to help you understand!

Lol yeah you see some crazy stuff at the gym. I used to go super early before work. I'd be on the elliptical and instead of a water bottle in the cup holder I had a cup of DD coffee.

You should try a rowing machine if your gym has them. I have one in our basement (currently collecting dust) but it is a good full body workout that uses resistance training. When I row on a regular basis I get nice definition in my arms and thighs and it burns a lot of calories. I think it is up there with running as far as cardio exercise with the benefit of a little strength training.

I love working out in the morning. I've gotten out of the habit bc of my commute and schedule but I hope to figure out how to do it again. I watch videos on YouTube for ideas. Also, personal trainers at the gym will often do a free session or discounted to help get you started.
Simple things like squats and lunges and some basic arm things with light weights (bicep curls, dips, shoulder raises) and cardio and you'll be on your way!
Also...I'm drinking wine. I love wine.

I keep saying I am going to join Planet Fitness. I used to be a Y member for the pool, but I need cheap with just access to weights.

Someone smarter than me come tell me what to do with those weights, though!

I don't know what kinds of equipment your gym has, but if they have TRX bands, they are pretty awesome. You can do a gazillion different exercises with them and they are all using your bodyweight as the resistance. To make something easier or harder, usually all you have to do is change the angle at which you do it.





They look like this. I had one free personal training session at the Y and my trainer used these to show me some moves.

Also, totally use that free personal training for reals. I loved getting personalized ideas for exercises that accomplished what I wanted -- fat loss, muscle definition, general strength.

MH and I have been obsessed with seltzer recently but haven't been able to find LaCroix in any stores near us. I've had it before but he's never enjoyed the amazingness. We did find a local company that our dairy delivers that is pretty damn good, though, for now.

W I'm watching PLL and feel so meh about it. It is slow and boring! Disappointed.

And no tips on the gym. I can barely get my ass on the treadmill in my own damn house. No way I'd be able to get myself to a gym lol. But aprilz81 has an awesome suggestion with the rowing machine. I rowed on a crew team for 6 years and have never been in better shape!

Good on ya, W that's a great start! I hate running too. The best shape of my life I walked a few miles a day and really didn't do anything else.

I haven't even watched last weeks. I'm going to wait until next week and have a mini-marathon with it

I've never tried La Croix but people always rave about it. Polar Seltzer is my jam. Their limited holiday flavors this year are amaze.

start slow to get back into it and stretch. I just started getting bavk into it as well. I do treadmill and then I have an app that I use for weight lifting. It does full body in 3p minutes which I like. Squats, lunges, curls, overhead press, etc. I then do a 10 min yoga/stretch session to end with.

You could also join the 30 day challenges we do on here. We are halfway through this one but you could jump in anytime.

I generally do classes at the gym, I try to go three times a week and I switch it up between interval gym classes and cycle.

Sometimes I use the elliptical but I generally don't do weights. I always feel kind if self conscious and we have a full weight gym at home so if I have a huge desire to lift I can do it here.

Just jump in though. And really, no one is looking at anyone working out. Especially in class. Everyone is too busy dying to be bothered to pay attention to what the person next to them looks like.
