I just talked to my OB this morning and I don't get an ultrasound until 20 weeks! My SIL had one. It will probably transvaginal and I would think you will possibly get to hear the heartbeat if they are able to pick it up.
This is how my former OB office was. If there was no medical reason for an u/s, you only got an anatomy scan. At that time, the NT scan wasn't really a thing just yet, so it wasn't offered to me. I did have the NT scan with DD2, though, which was nice. With DD2, they also did a scan at 9 weeks because the NP was confused and thought I was at risk for an ectopic for some reason. That scan was trans-vaginal.
I called my (newish) OB yesterday to tell them about my BFP, and I discovered that they routinely do a viability scan at 8 weeks (and no sooner, because they said they can't see anything that proves viability). I was pretty happy to hear that. March 1st cannot come soon enough!!
Just got out of the mw office. We saw a small gestational sack and yolk sack but no fetus in there yet. Need to come back in 2 weeks (17th). it looks like im 5-6 weeks pregnant ☺

Why am I feeling anxious about this? Rational side of me knows that 5w6d is very early and my MWs practice doesn't have the best u/s machine... irrational side of me thinks there are so many people who see a heartbeat at this stage so surely we should have at least seen a blob?! It's gonna be a looooong 2 weeks around here
try not to stress witty! I know, easier said than done. You are on the RIGHT track and I remember you saying that you were irregular, so not entirely certain on dates? Plus the sensitivity of the u/s equipt is really important. I know it will be a hard two weeks but all logical signs are reassuring

The more I thought about this, I believe it's likely all to do with insurance. IE: insurance will cover first tri blood tests, but if first tri bloods don't show cause for concern then there are probably lots of insurance providers that won't cover 12 week NT or 8 week viability. Now if your OB codes to your insurance that it's necessary (which I know my OB does for basically everyone) then it's a different game and insurance must cover.
WittyLittle , If you are feeling super uncertain, given your previous loss, will your MW let you come back in earlier than the two weeks?
oh yes! Sorry should have mentioned that. She said if I get really antsy that I could just come back next week instead but to try and wait so that we can be sure to see everything we need to see. I really hope that I can come on here in 2 weeks and say BAM! This is ok in the meantime you're stuck with WittyLittlePansy sorry guys!

From what I've read and heard, I think what you saw is completely normal. (((Hugs))) for the anxiety though. It's the worst. Hope the next two weeks pass quickly for you!
