I ran my first half-marathon a few weeks ago. It was awesome! I hate running. Or rather I used to love running, started to hate it a few years ago, but loved every minute of that 13.75 miles. They claimed it was 13.1, but everyone with a tracking app or watch near me had 13.7 to 13.87 miles.
I'm totally thinking of keeping it going and running a full in late April.
Anyone else working on anything fitness related? eddiegotsole are you signed up for any races this year?

Congrats! Glad you enjoyed the Half Marathon, even though it was a long course. As for me, I am not signed up for a race yet, but I am picking up my running in preparation of running some Half Marathons this year. Getting back into shape is definitely a priority for me, I took time to focus on my DS and got out of shape, so now I am determined to balance my training and parenting.
I would be totally pissed at someone making me run an extra 3/4 of a mile!
It was the Disney half so at least by the time my running partner and I exchanged looks and conferred with others in our group, we could see Minnie and Mickey waving us to the finish line!

Balance is key. Now if only I could figure out how to do it or maybe get the kids to buy into the concept. This sleep thing (or lack thereof) is killing me these days.
judyblume14, you have anything you are training for? With the death of the fitness board my motivation (hearing how others are doing) faded big time. Still working on your HSPUs?
Hmm...9 posts, 160 views, two guys posting, 1 woman posting, carry the 1....= lots of lurkers.
Please recommend your GPS watch!
I'm looking for something that will allow me to leave my phone at home and that syncs to some sort of app/website to track things over time. I don't need a heart rate monitor or something that tells me to stand up every hour or tracks my sleep/steps during the day. Just a functional watch with GPS to log my runs. Fitbit? The new UA tracker, TomTom, Garmin? What do you use or wish you had?
DW got me a Fitbit Surge for Valentine's Day. I'm a fan. It does more than I need, but I use what it's got. I've already been taunting SIL in a daily steps challenge.
The only down side is the sleep tracker. To be honest wearable trackers are not very accurate on the whole for determining actual sleep efficiency. But if you are trying to track changes over time Fitbit is a pretty consistent device. Being that I was curious I used the old school paper pencil clock method and compared to the Surge. The plus side is that it is close in its estimations, the downside is I've actually been tracking my sleep and I know exactly how much sleep I'm not getting. I'm tempted to say "Awesome I can actually function on little sleep", but this 5 hours of brokenness is brutal. I was doing better when I thought it was 6.5 with some fussy baby, four old creeping in bed stuff. Anything below 6 just seems terrible. But I feel like this has been sleep for the past 18 months.
The sleeper in me will cherish every bit of the 6 hours uninterrupted, no toddler, no four year old, no cat in my bed sleep I'm going to get for an entire month. W if you're reading this...I'm going to miss you all like crazy, sorry to leave you with two shitty sleepers and no one to make your coffee and breakfast who wakes you up at the last possible minute every morning.

I work in a shipyard and my day consists of nothing but walking and moving. There are some days I do a solid 6-8 miles before noon. Not to mention carrying gear as well as my PPE. I do want to be down to 170 or even 165 would be awesome but will do everything I can with everything I usually do.
I been off my game for 6-8 weeks. So basically not working out and stress eating chocolate. I'm waging a war on Dadbod.
I'm signing up to run my 3rd half marathon in Sept, committing to dealing with stress in non-chocolate ways, and getting back on track both physically and mentally. Being away from the fam in March sucked, but all the running and yoga was pretty amazing. Since coming home I'm just way more into spending time with them and need to rebalance to include myself in there somewhere.
Just finished a solid week. DW is doing BBM. I had been asking her to do it with me for a while but she's gone rogue since she has more time and energy during the day. I've squeezed something in at night or been getting up early. I'm hoping the early morning effort lasts long enough to make it routine.
Yeah so early mornings are dead already. I did do well when W's family was here exercising at night. Mostly because I didn't feel guilty working out for 30-45 mins. I would put DS2 down for bed, DS1 played with his cousins, and W was with her family. Now that they are gone we'll see how I fair. I hate working out when I could be playing with DS and then it's like 45-60 mins before we go to sleep so if I workout then...no time the two of us. We just sit on the couch but still.
Alarm is set for tomorrow morning. I predicting "snooze" and late to work...
Keeping up with it so far. W is doing another group challenge soon. I'm totally playing along when in starts up. I've sign up for a half in Sept...really need to start training for it. So competing against W will keep me motivated.

Good Motivation. Doing it together will give you guys a chance to talk when your both winded orjust walking
The working out together didn't really happen. I ended up skipping the half last month, but am registered for one in a couple weeks. W's been so on point the past month. She's doing amazing keeping up with and meeting her goals. With things going crazy at work I've totally slacked, but I'm cool with it I guess. I'm committed to refocusing...at least until I go off track again. Lol!
Praying for quality sleep tonight. I have a race in the morning and am averaging 5 hours for the last three nights. I did some pleading with DS2 before bed. Tried to rationalize with him, but dude just stared at me like I was dumb. Pretty sure his "yeah Dada" can't be taken seriously.
Well, I got to enjoy 7 hours of slightly interrupted sleep to run in 40 degrees, rain, and 35mph gusts. It wasn't terrible. Well the last 1 mile sucked. But, glad I did it. Eying something for next month already. 😜
Sonofa...improper training has resulted in a sprained MCL. Last time I was stupid and ran through it. I'm going to try to be smart about it. Problem is, it feels fine until it doesn't.
So, given I won't be logging many miles in the foreseeable future, nor working out much with this knee injury...I'm going to shift focus to mental wellness. I'm going to work on upping my mindfulness game and incorporating some ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy) into my life. I've been struggling mentally lately and without the ability (or motivation) to be as physical as I'd like, gotta switch it up.
Wow dude, that sounds awesome! I am currently trying to get (back) in shape as I am going on a backpacking tour with my wife before our little one is due. Backpacking while pregnant! Yup, we are THAT crazy It's only going to be an easy tour around the bottom of the Alps, but we are so excited! I can't believe it's around the corner I am telling you I spend most my waking time on backpacking–united.com just to make sure we have everything we need. They have some amazing stuff for all kinds of other fitness as well man, you should check it out. Other than that, wish me luck, this will be the last vacation without a kid for quite some time I suppose
tjr42px I am too much conscious of my fitness. I can help you with this. You can say me I am fitness lover. Sometimes people hate me due to my regularity. In the end, some people call you a fat girl. Call you by the name of a cow. I used to walk at night. Jogging in morning. I used frequently green tea at night after running. I walk or run according to a fitness app installed on my iPhone. It keeps track of my calories burn and need to run more. How much distance should I cover more? It records all my activities even number of footsteps. Now it’s time for my jogging. Lol. Talk to you later. Bye.
