I play/played the Viola and piano. Though I play either often now but wish I could find time. I miss it. My mother has been talking about giving me her piano and I secretly hope she does. It is a very nice piano; I would love to be able to play and be able to teach my kids.
I also love to sing but I do not have a good voice. It doesn't stop me as I am in tune just the quality Of my voice is not the best.

I play the acoustic guitar and sing, I'm a soprano to. I've just dropped out of drama school due to pregnancy as was to tiering and needed so much energy. Performing arts is my passion though. My bf has no musical talent at all, and is always saying that he hopes the baby gets my talents. It seems to be passed down through my family as every family member can play a musical instrument or sing

I've taken piano lessons since I was 7 and play for church. When I was in college I was able to take 2 semesters of piano lessons from someone with a doctorate, which was really cool.
I was also a vocal music major for two years - I was supposed to be a soprano, but I had always sung as an alto since I could read music. Therefore, I didn't have the range I was supposed to, and I was always getting sick. I ended up switching majors but I still took voice lessons a few semesters and I sang in the colleges concert choir as a second soprano or alto. I do most of my singing in the kitchen and car nowadays
I was also a band geek. I played the mallets and our percussion section won highest percussion in our competition my senior year (woo).
I've also taught myself the guitar (chords only) and I picked up the clarinet during high school but wouldn't be able to play anymore! I'd love to play the viola. In strings class during college I was actually decent at it - just too expensive to invest in the instrument.
I also sing and am a mezzo soprano, though I typically sing alto in groups, because I have a pretty low range. I used to sing in chorus and in an a cappella group in college. Nowadays, I sing at church (while the hubs plays drums) and I do musical theatre--usually a show or two/year. I won't be doing our next show as auditions are the week after I'm due and I'd much rather be spending time with our new LO instead of at rehearsals.

Love this topic! I wouldn't call myself a musician but I do love music. I started taking piano lessons in elementary school. I played clarinet and sax all through school. Not to toot my own horn (haha), but I was bumped up to high school band a year early (made my brother SO mad, he was a senior and I was in eighth grade and evidently not cool enough for him. He was a very talented trumpet player who hasn't played since hs, which makes me sad). I was recognized at the state level (clarinet) four years. I love to sing too, but have less confidence there. I'm an alto.
I still love to play but my arthritis sometimes affects my hands so I can't play too often. Before that set in I used to play in summer community bands, which was always a blast.
My DH has no interest in music and I want very badly to share a love of music with my kid(s). I hope they have a love of music like me.
Eta, I grew up in a church that sang from hymnals. Now we sing with the words on a big screen, and I miss not being able to read the music.

I have been singing since I could talk. I was in choir all through school. I did the competitions, performed in Disney world countless times, was in show choir.... Now I am in our congregations worship team. I can't sing much when I'm pregnant though, it's hard for me to breathe. I can as long as I'm sitting down. If I'm standing, I can't breathe. My husband plays drums and hand builds custom cajons. They are beautiful!

I sing in a women's a cappella chorus. I was so tired at the beginning of my pregnancy that I tool a leave of absence until January. We stand on the risers and do choreography, so it would have been tough, especially since I was usually asleep by 8:30 and rehearsals go until 10...
I play the piano and sing. My piano used to be in the room that is now DS' room and I really wanted to keep it there because I liked the idea of having a piano in the nursery, but ended up moving it...which is just as well since now DS will be sharing his room with baby!

I am the epitome of a band geek...I am a band director! I teach beginners and middle school students. My primary instrument is trumpet. I actually met my husband in our college marching band...
We also had that marching band play at our wedding.
Great topic! I was thinking about this too during the last gtky thread.
My husband and I both majored in music at some point in college (him more so than I; he even briefly attended a choir college) but both decided it wasn't something we wanted to pursue professionally.
He directed music at some church in high school and all through college. That money helped us so much! And I sang in his church choir, plus we cantored at another church. We've moved since then and haven't really found a good church gig, paid or unpaid. However, we sing in our community choir. We haven't started up for the spring yet and the rumor is we are going to do Schubert's Mass in G. Our spring concert always used to be a requiem before we had a major change in leadership. I can't complain because Schubert is way better than what we did last spring...
Pregnancy doesn't change much in the way of singing for me, except I get really excited when we hit that milestone where baby can hear your voice and I try to sing more often then!

I used to be much more of a musician. I was a music education major in college. I sang in the concert choir, was an accompanist for voice students, and played trumpet in concert band and jazz band. I still love music, but I live in small town Alaska where there are no opportunities to be a part of any musical groups.
I played the violin regularly from 3rd grade to 12th grade in school. Since then I've only picked it a up a few times but I can still crank out a decent sounding tune. Unfortunately my very nice violin was stolen in college and I only have a cheap-o one that is falling apart. I played viola my junior and senior year to fill up space in the orchestra. I own two guitars but can't really play them. On the piano I can jam to Chopsticks and Angels We Have Heard on High <random I know>. I also played a pretty mean recorder in elementary school.
