Cadence had a successful potty poop yesterday, but I had to tell her she could have 2 m&ms if she did it. She just wanted m&ms and I timed it just right. I would be more excited if earlier in the day if she hadn't sat on the potty fully clothed and peed through her panties and pants. Then she looked at me like wtf, mom? Not my fault, Dada was in there with her, not me. He came out if the bathroom saying she was refusing to pull her pants down. Stupid me stated, "surely she won't pee through her pants". Wrong. PT is awesome. Juuuuust awesome.
Do you guys use the big potty with a ring seat or the small one?
I feel like I shouldn't have bought the big one yet because it is all Callan wants to use and I cringe every time he touches the toilet. I think maybe my OCD can't quite handle this! Last night he was trying to fit the seat just right (because I'm not allowed to help in any way) and he peed on the floor and was so upset. I tried to not make a big deal out of it but he was. It was like a fifteen minute process to pee before bed.
We have both. She seems to only be interested in the big potty when she wants to sit for pooping. What until he goes hands first for a public toilet. I had to teach her we don't touch toilets, only sit on them. So now she keeps her hands down. Does your ring seat not have handles? Or am I misunderstanding ring seat...
Does anyone else's kid get so excited about peeing that they stop mid-stream?
Col went a few drops last night and I somehow convinced him to sit another 5 minutes, at which point he peed a bit more. Still didn't seem like a lot and he will often pee more once he's in the tub. He's clearly making progress - he now realizes it's coming and looks down right before he starts. But he's so proud that he rushes off to tell DH that he went. So far he's only peed on the tile, but I'm scared of him going on the hardwood.
JoeLies, plenty of hardwood pees here. Not out of excitement, more out of "don't tell me what to do or where to pee". We have also had a hardwood poop. I swear she's getting it, though after typing on this thread I'm starting to wonder how long until we are actually "finished".
Well we had our first accident last night and it was pretty comical. We were hanging out in the living room after dinner and N was standing in front of me playing. She let out a toot and immediately freaked out.... I guess a little more came out than she expected. She let out a scream and started running to the bathroom. It was hilarious. And disgusting! Somehow that little toot ended up in poop all over her butt and legs because we are rookies at trying to get it out of underwear.

Last night, M was hilarious when it came to the potty. He went a few times on his own without prompting and he would watch me as he was going. As soon as I would step in his direction he would say "NO! Go Away!" With a little grin on his face and his finger pointing at me. I was trying not to laugh, but it was funny.
At bath time, he tried to lock me out of the bathroom so he could go on the big potty by himself. After I was sure he was in the toilet room, I snuck in and watched him. He positioned his stool in front of the toilet, put his ring seat on, stepped up, peed on everything but in the toilet bowl, flushed, took the ring seat off, and closed the lid. He was so proud of himself. Cracked me up. Once I got him in the tub, I went to clean everything, then he pooped in the tub. It's the third time he has ever done it, and he always freaks and tries to make like a bat of hell when he sees the poop in the tub. I called MH in to handle that one once I got him out of the tub.
He has yet to poop on the potty. He has pooped in his undies a number of times. He likes to tell it bye bye when we flush it, but we have to work on getting him to sit on the potty long enough to do it.

We have this bumbo one. It really grips well on our tile and he can move it on his own because it's so light. I've thought about getting a second one for our other bathroom, too. Our countertops in the bathroom are tall, so I like that the stool is a bit taller than others that I've seen.
wedding we use the ring seat, as well. Of course, now if you try and get Bradley to sit on the toilet without a seat, he freaks. So we bought a spare to keep at my parents', but hopefully he will chill so I'm not dragging a ring seat out with us when the time comes.
snoopmommymom we have elongated toilets and our ring seat works fine (this is the one we have). Also, I'm having Bradley sit down. I know some people do it the other way but I don't want to confuse the issue at this point. I also figure I'll be cleaning up enough pee off toilets when he's old enough to know better...no need to start now when he has no aim!

snoopmommymom we have the one from ikea. Cheap and I like it more than any of the ones I've seen in store. It does fit elongated toilets, but no handles.
My kid wants to be just like dad, so he stands to pee. We definitely have to work on aim.

lahdeedah88, they sell toilet you can put in the toilet to train for "aim" or I've heard of people just using cheerios. I just looked on amazon for them and they look like tissue paper. so maybe just cut out animals and shapes from toilet paper and place them in the bowl.

Funny story. I think M thought he was going to poop on the potty last night. He had an accident on the way to the potty before bath, but he insisted on going to the big toilet and of course, I wasn't allowed in with him. I stepped away to put bubbles in his bath and when I went back to check on him he was standing on his stool and poop fell from his bottom. He looked confused when he saw it on the stool and exclaimed "I poop!" Of course I was positive about his attempt and just started explaining that he needs to sit to poop. He ran out of the bathroom to go tell his dad what he did and I called for him to come to see his poop (and to clean it up-lol). He's getting closer though, so we'll have to work on it over the weekend.

I planned on using Cheerios, but he likes Cheerios. I don't want him to start to associate them with the potty. I'm pretty sure my kid would be eating Cheerios and out of nowhere decide to dump it in the potty.
I have heard of putting a drop of food coloring in the small potty and get them to aim for the drop to get blue/red/etc. I'm not sure if I'm sold on that idea either, but I may try it.

Huggies pullups have velcro sides, Pampers Easy Ups have solid sides that you tear if they have a BM. I'm not sure what a slip on diaper is, though. I prefer the fit of Pampers on Cadence, but they don't make nighttimes. They say their easy ups are good for all day and night, but I felt they were leaking at night. We use Huggies pullups nighttimes for then.
Are the mom's of boys having them pee sitting down or standing up?
I don't have a potty seat for the big toilet. Which one is good for boys?
Also, I have one elongated toilet, will that mess things up? I might need a different seat for that one.
*hoping one day soon my child will also pee on the potty*
I have an elongated toilet and one of the character potty seats and I wouldn't recommend that. The seat slips around because the bottom is just hard plastic. That scared Hannah from wanting to sit on it for a long time. If you get one that has rubber or something that would grip the seat, that would be much better.

m.buybuybaby.com/1/1/17066-potty-seats-ginsey-sesame-street-folding-travel-potty-seat.html we've used this travel seat for months when we're out of the house- he won't go without it! The package it comes in is the perfect size to fit a travel pack of Lysol wipes. We just wipe the big toilet seat with the lysol wipe then put "elmo" down and he does his business. But no Elmo, no public potties. He's dependent! We keep one in his backpack and one in each of our cars.
Spencer spent all day yesterday and all morning before nap today in his underpants! He had an accident yesterday during lunch and after said "oh there is pee pee on that"
However, he still never asked to go. We just took him and sat him on the toilet every half hour or so and he peed almost every time.
When should I expect him to initiate on his own?
We had about 3 months of Jackson regularly going when we took him until he finally started initiating regularly. That may be on the long end of the spectrum though.
I never even thought to carry a travel pack of Lysol wipes. G will literally touch everything in a stall and sometimes I feel like washing or hand sanitizer (or even sometimes both) isn't enough!

I think we are on the prolonged schedule as well. I told mh we are just going to bite the bullet and only use panties from now on. He asked if I was joking.

Do it! We switched to underwear immediately when we decided to start PT (but pull ups at night because I'm not a glutton for punishment). I truly think it made all the difference for J. We had a week of some accidents; since then maybe two or three over several months but it's been our fault for not taking him quick enough. We take him once overnight around 10-11 before we go to bed and he wakes up dry.

Easier said than done. MH apparently doesn't have the ability to ask her if she needs to potty. She said she wanted to wear panties to school this morning and he acted completely put out by it (he doesn't ask or take her to the bathroom, she inevitably pees herself) and then convinced her to wear a pullup instead. We're never going to get anywhere with him on my team. Anyone want to make a mid-season trade?
Col's been doing such a good job at using the potty every night. I don't even know the last time he skipped it, he even went when my ILs were watching him this past weekend. When they watched him ~5 weeks earlier, he cried for DH and me and wanted off immediately. Progress, right?
So I figured we should start taking him more often at home. I asked him this morning when he got up if he wanted to sit on the potty and he screamed "No!" and almost started crying.

What is confusing me is when she says, "I need to go potty." So we take her to the bathroom and she flips out when we ask her to pull down her pants or we try to unzip her pjs. She told us she had to go, then she doesn't want to actually do it. If it were socially acceptable I would just let her run around naked and pee outside.

She will also sit on the potty, not do anything, and then say, "Maybe next time. Time for M&Ms? 2. I'll pick."
As in, "maybe I'll pee next time, but I should get M&Ms for at least trying, I want 2 of them and I will pick the colors, but I'll actually take more than 2 because I know you won't try to pry them from my sweaty little hands."

Anyone else has a kid that started PT at school and is doing excellent there, but is now regressing at home. For the last week, M does great at school. He has maybe 1-2 accidents a week, but at home he won't go when I encourage him to, and instead of going on his own like he was before, he just knowingly has an accident. This weekend after it happened 3 times in a row, I put pullups on him because I was not interested in cleaning pee and doing laundry all weekend. I talked to his teacher about it this morning at drop off and she said a little girl in his class is having the same issue. I've read about this regression, I just hope it doesn't last for a long time.

I didn't know there are boxer briefs for toddler. We do the Gerber training briefs. They have a little more padding for when accidents happen. I like them so far. Don't think I would do a boxer brief just because of the poop mess. I could imagine it sliding down the legs because M is tiny and I doubt they would be tight enough around his legs to secure any poop.
