Baby Things - What would you never buy again?

Subject is pretty self-explanatory.

I'm probably in the minority, but I really disliked the Ergo sport. I found it was difficult to use and my son hated it. He wanted to face forward.

I also had a wrap thing give as a hand me down that I never figured out. Things need to be simple.

This time around I want to get a Lillebaby complete and maybe a ktan since I'll need to have my hands free for my oldest.

I forgot, I also bought a Snuza that I never used. I never saw the need once he was here. Weird..

I was given a Bumbo. I think we used it twice. Not worth the money.

Swaddling stuff, DS hated being swaddled from the beginning.

Cloth diapers...I spent hundreds and he screamed bloody murder when we tried using them.

Any cart covers or high chair covers...they just aren't worth the hassle.

A high chair with padding/fabric. Skip the fancy high chairs and get one that is plastic and can be all wiped clean.

Bottle warmers - ended up microwaving in short bursts instead.

Nursing covers. Next time this breast is coming out and I don't GAF who sees. DS hated them and they're a pain in the ass.

Closet organizers. Clothes got jammed in drawers and it was a good day if they ever made it back onto hangers. Labeled plastic totes are the way to go.

I'll come back when I think of more.

Yes and yes. Also one where the straps can be removed and washed.

I have to disagree on the Mamaroo. We sold ours because my H wanted to recuperate some of the price we paid and we didn't if we wanted another kid. I'll be buying a new one. 

Swaddling stuff was also a must in our house. 

Agree with that breast friend though. I forgot it in my list.

I never bought most of the stuff mentioned - very frugal here. I returned almost all the baby clothes with tags on them. I kept a few cute things and things that I knew people would ask about. They don't wear much and it is a waste.

Moby wrap - never figured it out. LOVED (and still do) Ergo.

Bumpy - I bought one at a garage sale. I only used it to prop up the baby when they were gaining neck control. Big waste to me.

Bottle wamers - We just throw a mug with water into the microwave for 1 minute - put the bottle into the mug to warm up. You don't have to worry about "hot spots" and it is basically free.

It is easier for me to say the things I loved. Just do NOT go overboard on clothes. It is so easy to do and such a waste of money. They can seriously get by with 4 sleepers for the first 6 months. That is a little drastic, but not far off.

Buy what you need as you need it. Amazon can have it there in 2 days.

Nursing scarf, nursing pillow, bottle or wipes warmer (didn't actually buy but didn't regret not having them either). I honestly used and felt like I needed pretty much everything else.

Some people said a changing table isn't necessary. I still use it for my almost 2 year old. Sure, she has most diapers changed on the living room floor, but getting her dressed is way easier without crawling down.

Ugh yes. We are selling ours from DD instead of reusing for this reason.

I second both of these, people tend to give tons of blankets as gifts. I have so many blankets, most of which went unused. And baby shoes are pointless, they never stay on and why do infants who can't even move yet need shoes anyway?

My anxiety ramped up big time after DD (I wonder if it was PPA) so I ended up buying one from a mom's swap and used it until she could roll. However if you don't have extreme anxiety,  I could see not needing it at all

I'll add shoes/booties for infants. They fall off, and socks get the job done.

I agree with shoes, we didn't get them until he could walk, before then, socks.

The swaddlers never worked for us bc DS was tiny and they were too big. I wanted them to work so bad bc they look so easy! We just watched many videos on YouTube and learned how to swaddle.

+1 for peepee teepee. We just used a wipe.

Never got a bottle or wipes warmer. Didn't miss it. Like PP said, we put the bottle in a glass of warm water.

I actually liked the my breastfriend. I only really used it when he was little though, maybe got 4 mos out of it? I liked how firm it was and that it strapped onto me.

I absolutely loved the My Brestfriend when DD was tiny. It's true you don't get a long time out of it but it absolutely made those early breastfeeding days easier for me.

The thing we used least was one of those foam flower things to turn a sink into a bath ('Bloomin Bath' I think)? Just not necessary. Actually neither was the baby bath. This time we will just use the sink and then the normal bath.

And definitely baby shoes.

baby mittens (the kind for newborns to prevent them from scratching). They do not stay on and are just annoying.

nose bulb syringe. Maybe we just got a cheap one but it doesn't work and they also grow mould.

Agreed. Never buy baby shoes, blankets, shopping cart covers, or wipes warmers. I didn't even try the shoes, cover, or warmer. Total waste. And I got a bazillion blankets as gifts.

Did you try the Breeze- the 4moms pack n play? We didn't get much use out of our mamaroo but the Breeze looks awesome. I figured we splurged on the wrong 4moms product...

Did you try the Breeze- the 4moms pack n play? We didn't get much use out of our mamaroo but the Breeze looks awesome. I figured we splurged on the wrong 4moms product...

No we got a $70 Graco pack n play for travel. It didn't have all the fancy newborn stuff with it. We didn't even use it until he was 4 months old. So I'd say that unless you plan on using it every night, I'd wait on that purchase too.

Also, we bought a mattress for the bottom of our pack n play because we use it for several weeks at a time. The bottoms are incredibly uncomfortable for them. I think the 4moms one is a different shape or size so make sure you could get a mattress for it. Amazon has pnp mattresses for like $30.

I'm a total germaphobe, so I love my cart/highchair cover. I don't find it incredibly cumbersome. I keep it in my car, carry DS into the store and put it on w the other hand.

The baby swing - I know this is a lifesaver for tons of parents, but DD absolutely hated it. I think the longest she spent in it without crying was about 10-15 minutes (and that was one time). I tell all my PG friends to borrow a swing to see if their LO likes it before shelling out the $$ for it (and I offer them mine for their test run)!

DD also didn't want to be swaddled, so all the swaddling products and sleep sacks went to waste - maybe we'll use them this time around.

It looks like I'm in the minority on the nursing pillow - I have a Boppy that has been used every day for 2.5 years - for nursing until DD was 27 months, and now that she has weaned, she likes to snuggle with me on it at bedtime. She's still in her crib, so we do snuggles in the glider.

I haven't read them all but mamaroo for sure. It's nice, it worked, but C preferred the cheaper swing that the sitter had. Not worth the money, IMO.

caz1221, we also still use our Boppy! It was the best when we bfed. I switched him to formula at 6 months, and now he takes his bottle on the floor propped up on the Boppy and he loves it because he can immediately start playing as soon as he's done ha ha

The boppy puzzles me. Maybe I have a short torso or too small of boobs or something, but I could never position correctly.
