So we moved last November to a new state. Although I can appreciate all that colorado has to offer (greenery, mountains, beautiful snow) I'm still not doing very well. Partly because I lost my family in the move who were a big part of my support system. Now I'm in a new place and supposed to make new friends. It's just hard. I finally got a psychiatrist the other day. They did some genetic tests on me to determine what's the best type of medicine. I'm hoping it will help. Cause what I'm on just makes me feel stuck. Not great, not awful, just stuck. Anyone else do genetic testing before?
I'm sorry the move has been rough on you. We moved to be close to family and 3 years in they moved 8 hours away for work. It was difficult because we uprooted our lives (friends, work, support system) and they left. I work from home, so meeting people is difficult.
I hope the psychiatrist helps. You can PM me if you need to chat.
I definitely have experience with moving to a new state and not knowing a single soul. I haven't done genetic testing for psych med purposes, though. I hope you find something that works!
I know that feeling well of moving to a new state (province) and not knowing anyone. My biggest recommendation is use your children as excuses/buffers to get involved in groups, clubs, meetups. I met most of my long term friends when my son was younger and I attended "mommy meetups"
ETA: I assumed you have kids due to your screen name. Soooo awkward if you dont...
I have done genetic testing for a specific condition. Not for medication purposes but I can relate to the stress of waiting for the results. How long will you wait for? I had to wait 12 weeks. What will they determine after your results are in?
Good luck
They said it will determine which type of meds move through my system better. They threw a lot of big words in there but basically that it will help me get on a specific medication geared towards my body. , so we shall see. I find out results within two weeks. So I should know next week. Thanks!

Haha yes I do have 2 kids. So no awkwardness here! I tried some meetup groups but I always back out before going. I'm lame.

Thanks! I would be upset at my family for moving after that. I can't imagine uprooting everything to have them leave.
I do not know about genetic testing or medicine, but I can relate to feeling stuck sometimes. You're not alone. Hopefully the results will help finding something that works for you.
I hope the genetic tests get you on the right medicine for you 2kiddos.
Try a mom meet up again! I am really shy and I had to force myself to go after my son was born, but I'm so glad I did. I ended up with a mom friend that I still get together with pretty regularly, almost 4 years later.
OP I'm looking to move to a new state. A large part of it is to get away from my toxic family brow ever support is very important and I hope you feel unstuck soon. Have you tried any mom groups? A local therapist? I have three therapist in both cities that I am looking to go to.
Good luck if you decide to move!
I had a therapist back in oregon, but none here. Just the psychiatrist. I lack time to go to therapy unless I can find a weekend one. I have a 4 year old not in school yet and she can't come to my therapy sessions. Or at least I don't want her too.
Update: I went to get my test results today. The genetic testing was awesome in depicting why some meds haven't worked with me. But then I get home and realize there's someone else's name on my form. So now I got a call in to the psych in hopes that they will call me back today about my real test results. Ugh but I'm one step closer I feel.

What the heck?? That stinks, I'm sorry. I hope they can get it sorted out soon.

Well apparently the psychiatrist had the correct form, I was given a duplicate form which wasn't really a duplicate I guess. I'm a little frustrated but accidents happen. We will see how this new med helps!
