Anyone else's LO having tantrums?

About 2 weeks ago, DD started throwing tantrums.  She throws her head back, falls straight back and starts crying.  Luckily, most of the time I am able to grab her before she falls down.  However, last night I couldn't get to her in time and she fell back onto the floor.  Thankfully, she missed the fireplace by an inch and she was okay.  I wasn't prepared for this to start so early!  I know it is a normal phase of development and that it will get better as her vocabulary increases.  However, I wanted to know if other LOs are doing this. If so, how do you react to it?  DD usually only does it when she doesn't get something she wants.  I calmly tell her why she can't have it and then try to distract her.  Ex. You can't have my cup because the coffee is hot.  However, you can have your water bottle.

Oh yeah. I walk away and make a point of ignoring him. I sometimes go sit by something he'd like- a toy or something. He will see me and be like- oh hey, that looks fun and forget his tantrum. I don't coax him with it or offer it up, I just have fun playing with the train or eating a snack. This way it's his idea to redirect, not me placating him.

Oh yes. DD has been throwing tantrums for a few months. And they get worse and worse, it seems. Last night she threw one because DH took the volume remote from her. We are pretty bad about giving in...probably shouldn't give in quite so easily. We try to distract, but dang, she will go looking for whatever we took from her for awhile!

One thousand times yes. DD is a full on raging tantrum pro, now. I also had no idea it started this early. She started throwing them in NOVEMBER. Talk about caught off guard.

For now, we try t avoid tantrums by picking up on what sets her off. We are working in more and more signs, trying to up the ways in which she's able to express herself.

Obviously sometimes one year olds just need to vent. For an "unfounded" tantrum, I lay her down in a safe place and let her work it out. Usually after a couple of minutes she will stop crying, realize no one is watching, walk over to me and yell a few times, and then find something else to do. If the tantrum is tired/hungry induced, I try to get her to a calmer state and offer a solution.

Also, DD is a breath holder. Already. But luckily I can already just tell when something is going to incite a fainting spell. For now...
