Do you have any advice for anyone considering using donor eggs?
The big advice is know that nothing is a garauntee - we got eggs froze them and ended up losing them in the thawing and had to buy more then still had to do three rounds of IVF
For us we went in knowing we will keep trying til it works, even 10 rounds but it is a long road so go in knowing ok I will stop at this point and consider other avenues OR we'll just Keep trying
How long are you taking for maternity leave and will your sister take maternity leave too? (Sorry technically two questions, but related...hope that's okay)
Are there any psychological evaluations that are necessary for gestational carriers?
I understand you have an awesome situation with you sister, but do you know what qualifications have to be met for someone to be a stranger's carrier?
Or does being a stranger's carrier not a thing? Pardon my ignorance.
Everyone takes an eval and makes sure they are fit mentally to do this. As far as I know strangers rarely do gestational carrying mainly becuz there is no money involved so they don't get paid. It would be quite the sacrifice for a stranger and you'd have to trust them to carry your baby for 9 months
How much input do you have/want to have on the birth plan?
We have a lot we are very involved I'll be in the room when the baby's born and the first to hold her, the most important thing to remember is my sister is the patient, I am the Mom
Is it hard for you to be going through all of this so publicly?
No, I feel less alone becuz I talk about it and people have sent me messages saying they have been going through something similar and we talk and I feel like someone understands
Do you know whether or not it's possible for someone to be a gestational carrier if they've had complications in a previous pregnancy?
The fertility center runs tests and does mock embryo transfers and they tell you all that. There's a lot of variables but they can really tell you if your odds are good or not as a xarrier

Ah, of course. Light bulb moment... a stranger carrier would be a surrogate!
Not necessarily, if the eggs were not the carriers then the stranger would be a gestational carrier. A surrogate the baby is biologically related to them

Would you mind sharing how much a DE cycle costs at your clinic? I understand you all went through multiple IVF cycles, but I'm curious about the price of one cycle.

I'd have to go back and look at all our papers we made so many little payments one round of IVF I believe was about 3,000

Wow, I was looking at the cost of donor egg cycles at my clinic the other day and saw one cycle was $31k or your could get more "bang for your buck" and do some package with multiple tries for a BFP for the cheap price of $41k. My jaw almost hit the floor!

Jumping in...
I know the process of *getting* pregnant with a gestational carrier/surrogate situation involves a lot of intervention and etc. What choices have you seen being made for births? Any homebirths? Birth centers? (You've said your daughter will be born in a hospital, I guess I'm asking as you've talked to other people and heard their stories.)
