See this is why I like you guys so much.... I didn't even think about that! I'm going to look into their pool rules so that we won't be majorly disappointed.
That's definitely good to know! I'll have to talk to DH about it, but it may or may not be a deal breaker if we can hit a sweet spot where LO is young enough to not care about not being in the pool with her big brother and DS is potty trained. I think PTing DS may be the thing that holds us up though. Thanks for the info!
Reading this thread has brought me so much joy. DH and I live to travel, and I am honestly a little nervous about how parenthood will affect ability to travel. It will be more difficult for both practical and financial reasons. We're mid-30s, so we've spent the last 15 years picking up and going wherever and whenever we wanted.
One of the things DH and I did in 2015 was our "Baby Bucket List," which consisted of traveling to some of the places we've most wanted to visit. In March we went to Napa, CA and hit up every restaurant and winery we could think of (and rode a hot air balloon while we were there). In May we went to New Orleans, stayed on Bourbon street and partied until we dropped. Finally, in September we went to Rome and Paris for 2 weeks. DH, who was raised Catholic, got to see the Vatican; and I got to see the Eiffel Tower and the Palace of Versailles. I found out I was pregnant 3 weeks after we returned from Europe.
I can't pick a favorite place because I've loved so many of the places we've traveled (especially Islands in the Caribbean: Barbados, Puerto Rico, Grand Cayman). DH and I have both lived in one city our entire lives (even throughout college and professional school); so we love seeing what the rest of the world has to offer. When the baby is old enough to travel we will continue checking places off our list. The following is a list of places I want to go next (in no particular order):
Soufriere, St. Lucia Santa Monica, CA Hawaii (not sure what part) Costa Rica (Arenal Volcano and Manuel Antonio National Park) Ambergris Caye, Belize Capetown, South Africa

bgkc4, I'm 100% on the same page as you about being nervous about how parenthood will affect our traveling lifestyle. My BFF and her husband inspire me. They are HUGE travelers. For example, they did a 2 month-long "world tour" for their honeymoon, through Africa and Asia (damn self-employed people who can take two months off!). They have a 4 year-old daughter (my goddaughter and favorite little girl in the world other than my niece) and they have continued to truck that kid around the world with them. She's been to Paris, London, Switzerland, Iceland (twice), Mexico, and many places in the U.S. They're also the savviest budget travelers I've ever met.
My parents also traveled all over the world with me when I was a kid. We spent time in Kenya (twice), England (many times), France, Belgium, Spain, Russia, Guatemala, Ecuador. My father traveled to these places for work, and just took me and my sister along with him.
My recommendation for Hawaii is Kauai. H and I went there and the Big Island for our honeymoon and loved both, but Kauai was our favorite. Our bucket lists are similar! I forgot to put Costa Rica on mine.
Travelling with kids is what you make of it. DS is a great traveler but we've always just packed him along with us so he's never really had a say in the matter. DS has done 6-7 hour flights just fine.
We have family members who aren't great travelers themselves and don't really care for anything outside of their comfort zone and would never dream of taking their kids out of the country.
Hawaii is super easy with kids. You can buy supplies there (diapers, cereal, milk, etc.) for your hotel room and stores are readily available if you forgot something. We did Maui with DS and it was great. There are tons of kid friendly activities, pools, beaches, good restaurants, etc. My favorite island was the Big Island and Volcanoes National Park, but I'm not quite ready to do an all day hike with DS. We did a few 2 mile and under hikes with DS in the carrier in Maui to some waterfalls and had a great time.
