I was an over-achiever. I got A's, honour roll, captain of the rugby team, yearbook editor, student trustee for the school board etc. I stayed for an extra year. I wasn't popular but wasn't side-eyed at the popular kids parties, and was generally friendly with everyone. I drank a lot on weekends starting grade 11, 12, 13 but by the time I was in university I was over it.
Ray, I know you are in Canada so it's probably different than the US, but how do you stay for an extra year of high school? Is that common? Maybe there are exceptions, but feel like once you finish 12th grade here, you are done regardless if you want to stay in high school forever.

We used to have 13 grades and they cut it back to 12. In my area about have the students stay. It allows you to take a couple extra preps a year and you can take more courses. I took a half year wilderness leadership course so I stayed to be able to take that and to save more money.

Interesting! Very cool concept. The US could learn a lot from Canada (and almost every other developed country) in many many ways.
