This whole thread makes me wish I was doing a big party like last year. MIL is throwing a party for him when we go to visit them the week before though. Nothing big or fancy, just a pool party at their neighbors house. I'm just helping with day of prep and not organizing or doing anything beyond that.

Critique this brunch menu. There will probably be about 20 present, not many kids (ours, their cousins, maybe a couple friends/neighbors).
-egg casserole or quiche -cheesy tater tot bake (Pinterest recipe) -mini chicken & waffles (DH is dying to get Chik-Fil-A catering for a party so I thought we'd get nuggets and put them with the mini eggos) -"cake batter" waffles (just waffle mix with sprinkles probably) -mini parfaits (vanilla yogurt, granola, strawberries) -more fruit (maybe?) -donut cake (I'm totally into this instead of regular cake! We have an awesome donut shop nearby too) -(iced) coffee, juice
What should I omit or add? I need to sell DH on the idea of a party early in the day.

Look at it this way, you can get the sugar buzz over with early instead of fighting it at bed time.

I'd do a mini chicken biscuit tray from chick fil a instead of the extra work of adding waffles to nuggets (plus, as someone else mentioned, 2 waffle items seems over the top).
What about doing a pancake "bar" instead of waffles? You could have different toppings (including sprinkles) and people can put together what they like? I saw Ree Drummond (the pioneer woman) do that on one of her episodes. She had sausage and bacon to go with it.

That is a lot of sugar and carbs so you may want to throw in some veggies and proteins to balance it out a bit more to help head off massive sugar crashes. Bean salad, hummus and veggie sticks, turkey cheese roll-ups?
Also, do want the tater tot bake recipe please!
The quiche and tater tot bake both include meat and cheese and the quiche also has eggs. Isn't that enough protein?
I was going to have a mickey mouse themed party. But, it seems that DS is loving construction equipment a lot more. So, I'm thinking that we will have a construction party.
We did a construction party for DS1 one year and it was one of my favorites. I'll see if I can find some pics.
ETA:
Where did you order the garland on the mantle from? I'm thinking of doing this theme for his party. We will be camping the week of his birthday but I think we will do a small party the week before.

Amazon.
I still have the garland and some dangly decorations. Want me to mail them? PM your address on FB if so!

Who are you all inviting to these parties this year? I feel like if I have ours at the park, I should invite her friends (little kids). However it's tempting to keep it just family. I just don't want to have it at home. I know I don't want to party clean the house at 8 months pregnant.

Probably just the grandparents and aunts/uncles. Maybe some close family friends and our neighbors we're close with. DD doesn't really have friends her age outside of the kids at school (sad?), and she's getting ready to not see any of them for the summer anyway.

We're going to be out of town for her birthday, but if we were home, it'd be family and close friends. Maybe a couple of kids, but we wouldn't go through the trouble of inviting kids specifically for her. I think they're still a little young to "get it." We will be sending in cupcakes to school for her class a couple days before, though.
We're inviting a handful of families from our baby group, and good friends with kids, then parents, and my grandma and aunt/uncle that live close. DD has the last birthday out of her little buddies, so she's been enjoying going to their parties over the last few weeks, and I think she'll enjoy playing with them, even if she doesn't get that it's for her.
I have a lot of family close by so they will be invited plus our close friends and their littles if any. I just did a simple FB invite. there are 34 people invited (not including kids). But A lot of them were "have to invite" most of them will not come.
We just got the oriental trading catalog - tons of really cute birthday stuff.
I'm trying to decide if I should pay the fee ($85-ish) to reserve the space in the park we want to use, or just chance it. The only problem is that we're having her party in the afternoon, so I worry it will get taken over before then. I can also watch the city reservation page to find out if someone rents the spot right next to it.

I have basically been dead on this board but we worked on Zs invitation this weekend! I still want to add a pic of her on there, so much to do - it will be in our backyard again and prob around 50ppl invited which is our close family and friends.

My poor kid. Not having a party (even if we were, most people we'd invite are going to be gone. Including potentially his own father, lol). Instead he gets to go to DS1's friend's birthday party on his day. Whenever we do celebrate his, he probably won't even get a real birthday cake because he doesn't like it (or ice cream). I think I may do strawberry shortcake. And presents...I don't know what I'm going to get. I'm feeling so anti-STUFF and would probably just rather put the money we'd spend in his bank account but Mom guilt tells me he still needs some presents to open.
So what are some things you've decided to get for your LOs? I'll definitely do some new books and probably an outdoor toy. I'll likely get some toddler coloring stuff since he likes to color. I had bought the jumbo cardboard Melissa and Doug blocks when I got a good deal on them but ended up breaking them out one week when it rained nonstop and the kids needed some new entertainment. But other than that I'm feeling no inspiration on what he might like that we don't already have.
