Show ‘em off here This is the place to show off your babies and carriers: Where / how did you where your baby this week?
Mar 1 COTW How did you do with last week’s carries (coolest hip cross carry, poppin’s hip carry)? Did you find a new carry to love?
Mar 8 COTW How do we feel about starting some back carries this week? I know a few of us have been trying it already, especially now that some babies are starting to sit independently.
If people are comfortable, I’d suggest starting with Secure High Back Carry and Ruck, which seem to be more of the “starter” back carries.
(@chitownsully – I know you were concerned about baby being able to sit independently but someone recently clarified on BWI that the rule is for SSC, not wraps. NOT that it means you should try if you’re not comfortable, but I thought of you when I saw the post!)
Me (37) + DH (39) BFP #1: DS born July 2011 BFPs #2,3,4,5: Four losses from Nov 2013-Nov 2014. Yeah, that sucked. BFP #6: 1/5/15 - Rainbow baby boy born 9/16/15
We are a bit behind. Here are the Robbins and Poppins hip carries in a borrowed Didymos size 4. I'm going to try to practice the ruck this week with this 4 to convince myself that I need a one for my birthday.
So these pictures are horrible quality, but we use Poppins a lot with a size 3 wrap. Also a girl in my babywearing group does a version where you go under the leg and I tried to show that as i prefer that way. If anyone is interested I can post the link to her video.
We were in Florida for 5 days this week and I wore C every single day, usually several times. I brought two wraps and a mei tei and they were completely worth the space in my suitcase! We were able to do so much that would have been harder either with a stroller or just carrying him. I loved not dragging a stroller through the airport or to restaurants. He napped several times on me - while we were playing at the beach with big brother, taking a hike through a wildlife preserve, at dinner twice And a shorty makes for an excellent nursing cover or cuddle blanket for a sleepy baby. My wearing time during the week is normally so limited, I felt like this gave me a chance to really get into the groove. And also like beaneKnitterpineapplesmoothie have said recently, it made me want all the monies for more wraps. I’m starting to hoard you guys. I feel like I need to try everything.
Baby napping on the beach in a mei tei
My favorite this week was coolest hip cross carry. You guys – this is my jam. So easy, poppable, not a lot of fabric (I eeked it out in a long 2), extremely comfortable. Less pressure on my shoulder than rebozo because of the waist belt. I like rebozo but if C is fussy it’s hard because he wants to straighten his legs, so this was the perfect solution. I tried Poppins’ for like 2 seconds but couldn’t get it pretty so I gave up, lol.
Not great pics, but here we are in coolest hip cross carry with the bonus of a baby in sunglasses
mandy522, is that a cornflower didy?? I want to hoard it all too.
Yes, and it is amazing. So soft and seriously the perfect blue. It's a little thin for my giant bubs though, not sure the shorty will last for us for long, but it's fantastic for the moment.
I know the resale market isn't great right now and if I buy I have to sell something, probably at a loss - it's the only thing keeping me from buying like 6 wraps I have my eye on and just trying them out to see what I like best. Some of these prices are incredible though.

But as long as we buy low and sell low, we're only out shipping, right? I just bought a sz 4 Zara Orchid for $80. $80.
Buy low and sell high and you're making money!
I'm still waiting to get into the swap feedback group to switch out mei tais. Have not yet gotten sucked into regular wraps..

Lol I think you're a better bargain hunter than I am! My problem is I'm buying low and selling lower. Not terribly lower, I think I've lost $5-$10 on each of the wraps I've sold, but that plus PayPal and shipping will eventually add up if I keep up the churning.
Does everyone's baby rip at your hair all the time? I am starting to wrap my head in a bandana when I have Ramona on my back. She just has fistfuls of my hair the second she goes up.
Constantly. Between this and the pp hair loss it's a wonder I'm not bald.
I'm investing in some nursing necklaces soon in the hopes it stops him from immediately going for my hair when I pick him up. If that doesn't work I may chop sooner than I'd planned to

Thanks for this. I've been dying to try a back carry and I think we're ready. I'm also going to try to go to the BWI meeting this month, too.
I have it on my calendar but just realized this weekend it's on Easter Sunday. Boo.

That was on my radar for a long time. I could never find cornflower on the swap sites.

It sat on the Indio lovers page for two weeks - I couldn't believe it. I kept logging in expecting to see it gone.
If you ever want to arrange a visit let me know! I could live without it for a month
Can I ask a more general baby wearing question here?
For STMs who use SSC, do you find they get hot in the summer if they aren't mesh? I have a black Beco Gemini that I adore, but worry about cooking the kiddo this summer.

Yes, I find my ergo is very warm. We bought a lillebaby airflow and it's definitely better than the ergo.

I just saw the new Beco cool mesh. My heart says "yes" but my wallet says "you're poor".

Ha ha, I'm poor toooo! I've been drooling over all the baby wraps lately and yesterday we found out we need to spend 2k to get some drainage issues dealt with on one side of our house. Guess I'm going to have to rein in the spending
I think trade value is how much you think it's actually worth, vs how much you're willing to let it go for. Someone else should weigh in, because I'm not totally sure.
Like I might say I have a wrap, and it's in great condition, a desirable color, in a sought after size, I might think it's trade value is... $150. If I'm looking to trade I don't want to trade for something less desirable, obvs. So your trade value is about what the wrap is worth. Is it hard to find? Maybe it's trade value is even higher.
But what if you don't want to trade, and you need the money. Your trade value and ppd price might be different. Maybe your tv is $150, but youll take 100ppd. And how these numbers relate to retail is a whole different thing, depending on what prices the market will offer based on availability of that item.
Thanks! Also, I found two pulls in the body of the didytai.. How much do they affect value?

I asked about this on our BWI page a week or so ago and got a similar response. The secondary market is so saturated right now that people are selling for much less than they put into something, so TV is being noted to indicate actual value. Like, I have $300 into this WCMT but I'm willing to let it go for $150 cash to move it. But you wouldn't offer a trade that has an actual value of $150 to that mama, you'd need something of comparable value. Not sure if that makes sense?
Everything I've bought is from a swap site, so I don't think it really makes sense to indicate a difference in TV vs cash value for those items. I think the two different values really pertain more to retail purchases or wrap conversions or hand wovens.
@chitownsully honest to god, I had to go shower after our first back carry attempt. I was a sweaty mess and C spit up in my hair. Not pretty!
But last week I did it on the beach with 20 people watching and it was easy peasy. I'm starting to believe I might one day actually be able to toss C up on my back in a parking lot to go shopping.
A friend came over and we practiced rucks. One of these pictures was taken already, but it is fun to see the same carry in different wraps. Her son is an August baby and 26 lbs!

You're all doing these awesome carries and I'm over here like 'Look guys - I used my Tula at DH's track meet on Friday and my Maya ring slung at the mall today!' I want to be in the cool club but I don't have time to practice wraps and/or lots of places to wear him...
I tried at home and it was moderately successful. I was watching videos online and I can't tell apart a lot of the back carries.
A ruck pass goes from over one shoulder and diagonally across the body and under the leg? A cross pass gets a seat tucked but not under the leg? What's a rebozo pass? Is that the first thing I described? So confused.

I do not own any wraps... I've been looking for something budget-conscious so that I don't feel badly if I don't love and use it all. the. time. Can anyone speak to whether this is a good one? Worth it? Other suggestions for a newbie on a budget? I just got approved on the budget Facebook group this afternoon.
