I have freckles all over, I am diligent about sunscreen.
My 4 year old gets deep tan, despite my slathering her in sunblock constantly. She is part Middle Eastern, Italian, Greek and Spanish. Not much I can do.
My son got his Irish coloring from me, I fullu expect freckles, even with my sunblock analness.
And aren't tans fine as long as they didn't come from a burn or from tanning beds? As in, you put sun screen on like you're suppose to and you still end up with a tan.

I have heard that any sun exposer is bad and to wear spf 40 at all times, even winter. Especially SPF broad ban to cover rays A and B.

This, but it's also nearly impossible to avoid getting tan...Well, unless you stay inside or wear long sleeves and pants.
I wear spf 40 and sit in the shade, but still get tan. Same with DS--last summer, I kept him in a bathing suit that practically hit is ankles, a long sleeved rash guard, spf 50, a hat and under an umbrella at the beach. He still got a slight tan. Sure, we go to the beach 4-5 days a week, but he is in the shade 95% of the time except for water breaks. This summer should be interesting because I can't trap him in baby jail with toys. But, I also can't keep him inside. Instead, I do my very best to avoid the sun from 9-2 and typically head to the beach around 1:30-2pm each day.

Gawd, weeklyplanner you don't have to brag about going to the beach that much.

This, to me, sounds extreme in the same way as saying you should only ever eat organic food or never sit near a wood fire. I've certainly heard it and don't think it's a bad idea, but our skin can deal with some sun. I know that our current atmospheric protection from damaging rays isn't as good as it probably was in the past, but experts who say that all exposure to the sun should be avoided are going too far. Shouldn't the atmospheric protection be better now because of all the smog? #scientist #issmogaword #ibeendrankin

Sorry if I came across as a sun screen nazi. I have been getting into skin health lately because I have done so much damage to my skin. I just found out how much exposer to bad rays you get even in the winter. I also didn't realize how important makeup with SPf is and now I'm really going to make an effort to apply more SPF. I also think it's impossible to stay away from the sun, I love it too much.

I've heard anything over spf 35 (or was it 50?) isn't any better than its lower counterpart. And titanium dioxide is where it's at.

I think it's around 40...
I don't think all exposure is bad, I mean, hello vitamin D. Also the feel goods it provides. Take precaution, watch your skin, enjoy the outdoors.

GAWD stop with the fearmongering. My kids don't need sunscreen or car seats. You guys are the worst.

Having a tan means you damaged your DNA enough that your skin needed to produce melanin to protect itself. If you're getting tan, you're not applying enough sunscreen or not putting it on often enough. Freckles are a sign of past sun damage. That's why you don't have them in non sunexposed areas(except neurofibromatosis but those aren't actual freckles). I'm pretty sunscreen obsessed, but I deal with skin cancer daily at work. I am sure I will have a few of my own from past sun damage.
CPS for powdered sugar? I'm sure that complaint went right in the shred bin.
I have a lot of feelings about being a working mother, but I can't put them all into words. I don't want my kids to think they can "have it all", because IMO you can't. Mainly I want them to get an education without debt so they aren't stuck working in a career they'd like to leave someday.

I didn't mean anything towards you personally, sorry! I don't think that being extra safe is a bad point of view and I don't think you or anyone here is being pushy about sunscreen. Just my random thoughts.
