I'll start this early since I've basically been awake all night.
Long story short, I had a really bad fall while cooking and transferring boiling water/pasta last night.. I spilled the pasta and water all over my neck, face and chest and also fell and hurt my foot and knee pretty bad and hit my stomach. Dr sent me to ER to monitor baby at L & D, get foot xray, and burn cream. I went home at 1am but my foot is in so much pain, I can't even walk to the bathroom by myself right now. I have a big boot but am guessing I'll need crutches. This is a huge week with my family coming in from out of town, DS' big birthday party at our house, lots of activities and stuff to get ready for that, so I have no idea what I'm going to do. DH really can't even ask off because of all the layoffs happening lately, and he asked off one day already for DS' birthday.
Sorry for the whining. I just don't know what we are going to do when the morning rolls around and DS wakes up. I'm trying go focus on how thankful I am that it wasn't worse and that baby is totally fine.
txmommy14 I feel so badly for you that this happened at all, but especially at this really busy time. I'm glad that everything is alright with the baby, and I hope everything else starts to heal quickly. Do what you need to with DS to survive the next few days - lots of tv and easy activities and all diaper changes on the ground. Can any of your family or ILs come to help? Do you think you could have DS go to his old daycare place for a few days (that's if you can drive- what foot is it?). DH and I have signed up for an emergency nanny service in case we ever need it. I'm sure your area has something like that too that maybe you could utilize.
Have you seen any of those scooter-type things that people put their broken foot on and kind of wheel around instead of using crutches? That might make things easier for you.

Oh, txmommy14!!! I am so sorry, that's so scary and I cant even imagine the pain you're in (burns are the worst!). Like others said - ask for help, take it easy as much as possible (hard I know with a busy week) and heal quickly!! Keep us updated, we are thinking of you!!!
How scary txmommy14! I'm glad you and baby are mostly ok though, even if you're slightly immobile. Hoping that your foot isn't broken and is just sore from the fall. I know how frustrating this must be though with everything you have going on this week, and all the other recent craziness. I second all of babyzebra's advice. Can your family come in early? Depending on the airline, they may be able to swap out tickets pretty easily if there's an earlier flight so you have some extra hands (and feet) to help you out with DS. Good luck and I hope that you're on the mend quickly!!
txmommy14 I'm so sorry. Maybe a friend or neighbor kid could come help you (it's spring break here) for a couple hours to give you a break. Don't feel guilty about tv this week. I hope the pain subsides and I hope you can get what you need done for the party. The party will be great just with family there and anything you get done will be a bonus. Get well soon!
I can't walk on the foot at all right now, so DH absolutely has to stay home (which we really didn't want to do with all the layoffs happening, but his boss was nice). He's at his office now grabbing his computer. I contacted DS' old daycare lady but I haven't heard back yet, hoping I can leave him there tomorrow or get MIL to come help out if absolutely necessary. Thankfully, it was my left foot (as far as eventually driving goes).
I haven't asked about my family coming early but that's a good idea, I'll see if there is any way for my Mom to get off early and change her flight. My sister cannot because she has her MIL flying in town to take care of her kids for her!
Thanks for the advice about TV time, etc. I always feel guilty about that and know DS will be watching a lot of TV after baby comes-but I'll probably let him watch a ton today.
Don't feel bad about TV time. You're physically unable to keep up with a toddler so finding things that will keep him in one place for an extended period of time is okay!! And seriously, Daniel Tiger is my savior some days!
He's obsessed with Daniel Tiger soultrane, and I think it's really cute too! He also loves Peppa Pig, which is extremely annoying. Anyone have any other good toddler shows they'd recommend?
We love the PBS line-up and it's pretty educational. Super Why and Daniel are my favorites. DS has also gotten into Paw Patrol lately, which is cute even if it isn't totally educational. He introduced us to Team UmiZoomi recently which I really like so far - lots of talk about numbers and shapes.
The only kids show we've outright banned is PJ Masks because it turns him into a crazy person after he watches it. He thinks he's a super hero and then goes nuts running around the house...probably not a good idea for you this week!
We like all the pbs shows and ds is also a huge paw patrol fan. Check your on demand for a movie... Not as educational but longer down time. I've also put ds in a high chair and let him play with paint or play dough. That way if he makes a mess it's confined and you can sit while he plays. He'll play with play dough for 30+ min if I give him cookie cutters and other things to stick in it. Good luck!

Over breakfast this morning DH and I were discussing cars (we're talking about getting a second if/when we move to the 'burbs in the next few months). The width of seats came up, and I joked "Oh, we need the widest seats available because I'm kind of wide these days." My husband responded "You're not really wide, just THICK." Geeeeeeez, thanks for the backhanded compliment sweetie! Anyone else's SO have some choice words you'd like to quote?
txmommy14 - I'm so sorry to hear about your fall. That is so scary and painful I'm sure. I hope you can find some help. Don't worry about the birthday....it will all turn out just fine and he's still little so no lasting traumatic effects if everything isn't perfect DD is a huge fan of Peppa, Daniel Tiger, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Peppa is the one she will sit and watch for hours at a time without moving. I thought it wasn't educational, but honestly her vocabulary really picked up once she showed an interest in it and she tells very detailed recounts of each episode so it's like comprehension of what is going on. There are also the egg surprise videos on You Tube. They are so weird but DD is mesmerized by them. If you have a tablet for him DD also does really well with these Tiny Hands apps. They are like sorting and matching type games. I also second Play-Doh.
I had a bit of a cluster of a morning. Our back-up nanny who we use 3 hours a week cancelled again on us today. She has some thyroid issues and the medicine I think is making her sick but it's such a scramble now. I'm out Friday and next Monday because of Easter and I have my glucose test Thursday so I'll be late to work. Not super ideal for me to have wfh a half day today too but if I have to I guess I can. I'm at a level where this should not be an issue (and it's not) but I have one of those always in the office bosses so I feel guilty about it.
Yesterday was also a shit show. I was re-sorting all of DD's toys and had them in piles all over the floor when a giant cockroach ran across our floor. I almost died. I mean I live in the city and this is not an uncommon problem in apartments. They are doing a huge remodel directly upstairs and it always stirs things as well as one of our neighbors always leaves trash in the shoot area instead of putting it down the shoot. It doesn't matter because naturally I panicked, cried, and then deep cleaned our entire house for the next 6 hours stressing about how it must have been my fault. I moved all furniture, swept, vaccumed, dusted, swiffered. I even cleaned out all the closets and threw away any boxes that I could. My husband eventually refused to help me because he said I was going way overboard. Fun times. They are going to come spray (hopefully extremely soon).
soultrane, DS is watching Super Why right now and is loving it!! Also, I got the cutest shirts from an Easy shop that were big brother/sister. I think the shop is called SnowSew. Dangerous stuff!
nymama917, thanks for all the great tips! And we do have an iPad, I'll look those up! So sorry about you having to take a half day because of childcare. And ewww to the cockroach! I hope you don't see any more!

txmommy14, that is so scary. I'm glad that you and baby are ok. Don't feel bad about screen time for one second. There's no way you can keep up with DS today. Our little guy also really likes Octonauts (they're his favorite) and The Lion Guard. The Lego Movies are all pretty cute and hold his attention (without driving us insane).
txmommy14 I'm sorry you are so uncomfortable! Glad to hear baby is doing well and I hope they can get you mobile soon.
Snow day today. So much for spring. It is still coming down a bit, but I hope it melts fast. I slept through a call from my OB this morning and I am guessing they are calling about the glucose test. The nurse had her serious voice on and gave me the "please call as soon as you get this" so I am convinced it is bad news. Don't take my ice cream away! I hate how when I miss a call from them, I have to call back and leave another message, then they call me back, and God forbid I miss that too, which happens a lot when I'm at work, and the process starts all over again... I understand why it has to be that way, but it is such a suspenseful game of phone tag

txmommy14 Hope you have a quick recovery. Don't worry too much about getting things reqdy for the birthday, people will understand. Do you have a playroom where you can set DS free and he can run around while you sit still? That's what I do for DD when I'm couch parenting. The room ends up being a huge mess, but she gets her energy out and I don't feel guilty
soultrane I bought this little onesie from old navy for less than $5 and I'm awing the one piece on the right from gap that I got for $3. I know I'm having a summer baby but it was too cute and cheap.
I feel like garbage for the 5th day. I have a sinus infection for sure. Ds and dh are off this week for spring break so they are off having daddy day care and having fun. My mom comes tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to it. She'll not only help with ds but she'll make me crepes and make sure I'm feeling better. Nothing better than a mama. I'm hosting an Easter craft play date this afternoon so I need to clean my house, make carrot cake muffins and oh yeah work
I'm not having a grown up day. I just ate a bunch of sugary cereal in case the nurse called back with bad news about the glucose test. Then I got a package from Amazon from my registry so I've been stalking what people are buying all "PRESENTS!" Very mature!
How scary txmommy14, burns are one of my biggest fears! Glad things are good with baby and like everyone else has said, try not to stress too much about all the house/party/etc stuff.. people will understand!
txmommy14, oh my goodness I'm so sorry that happened to you. Do the best you can to take it easy, that sounds so scary though. My DS loves Daniel Tiger, his other favorite shows are Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Curious George and Paw Patrol.
A friend of a friend just gave me two giant bags of 0-12 months girl baby clothes, which was the one area of items we were lacking. And it's mostly really practical clothes like onesies and leggings. With DS we bought pretty much everything ourselves, which was fine, he's our baby obviously, but I'm so happy not to have to spend money on clothes for the first year this time.
