Hi everyone!! I wanted to thank you again for all of your T&P's and postive messages over the weekend. It read all of your responses to DH who was so amazed by how thoughtful and supportive this community it. I ended up in a long, complicated labour but will try to shorten it as best as I can.
At around 2 am Saturday morning I woke up to a strong cramp and the feeling of "something weird" down there. I swung my feet over the side of the bed and as soon as I did there was a huge gush, and fluid started pouring so loudly it woke up DH. I paged my midwife who recommended waiting for labour to start/pick up since I was not having any contractions at this point and there was no rush since I was GBS - . I spent most of Saturday hanging at home with DH and a few family members who stopped by to check on me.
At 4:30-ish I started having contractions every 20 min or so. I checked in with my MW to let her know things were starting to progress, as they did not want me waiting much longer than 24hrs with with ruptured membranes due to risk of infection. At 11pm, ctx were about every 3 min apart so we pages the MW again who agreedit was time to meet at the hospital. Upon arrival they checked me and I was 100% effaced and 4cm dilated! Yay! Things progressed fairly quickly and smoothly from there and I got into the birthing run around 4:30am, was checked again at 5am, and was 9cm. The second MW was paged and I was told to wait until she showed up and we would start to push. I was thrilled I had been able to hold out for the natural birth I had hoped for.
While we waited my ctx started to spread out again. I got out of the tub (thinking this was the issue) and suddenly I was only 7-8cm. An hour later I was 6-7. Turns out Brooke's head was slightly tilted in my pelvis and as a result she was regressing back up and taking me out of labour. At this point the MW's were recommending pitocin to get things going again and an epidural to manage the ctx. I agreed and was hooked up to an IV and monitors for Brooke. Once the epidural was in place I was able to rest until 10am when I was again fully dilated and ready to push. The problem was Brooke came back down tilted. I pushed with the ctx for another 2.5hrs while the two MW tried to manually get her crooked head under my pubic bone with no luck. I was told the last chance was to get the on call OB in with the vacuum who said we had a 50/50 shot of delivering vaginally. The OR was prepped just in case and a team of what looked like 10 doctors and nurses came into my room. The OB made a small cut to help give Brooke more room and after 5 pushes she was out with the help of the vacuum!
Recovery has been fairly good for both of us, and luckily we both left with zero signs of infection or any indication of what we had been through. She's nursing like a champ and gaining well. DH and I are so in love and would do it all again for her.
Tl;Dr Brooke Johanna was born at 1:19 on Sunday February 1st weighing 7lbs 13oz and 13oz and and measuring 21 inches long almost exactly 35 hours after my water breaking.
Edit: I tried adding a pic…Fail. Yay!
