Eh, I dunno. I was planning on installing the car seat soonish to give DS a chance to get used to the idea. We're going to have to move his seat in DH's car so that plays into it too.
When should we pack this stuff? Is 5 weeks out cool? I alternate between being an anxiety ridden over-planner and a major procrastinator. I just don't want to drop the ball and not have a bag packed.
I had a list of what I wanted to pack but didn't pack anything for myself until we were leaving for the hospital. I'm a bit of a procrastinator when it comes to packing. I can pack pretty quickly and for most people in general labor doesn't progress super fast that you can't even pack a bag.
My plan is to set up the pack n' play in our room and pack my bag at 35 weeks-so exciting! I did that last time too.
We had to install the infant car seat base for my niece who just came to town. At almost 32 weeks with a likelihood of the baby coming at 37 weeks, I decided to just leave it in there. Plus I had to move DS, so he can get used to it. Unfortunately I've had to use the child lock because he's been trying to OPEN the door while driving-now I know the purpose of child locks, geez! Scary!
Anyone have a linea nigra? I'm pretty sure I had one at this time during my first pregnancy, but it's nowhere to be found this time. Mine stuck around until around 6 months PP.

I don't yet, I check frequently because j thought I would. I feel like it may just pop up overnight!

Yep! It's fairly light, but definitely there. It does tend to go away eventually though right? So far, so good on the stretch mark front, so I'll take it.

No linea negra or stretch marks for me yet *knock on wood*. I'm super-fair, so the absence of a linea negra isn't surprising to me, but the stretch marks are another story - I got a ton during my normal adolescent growth spurt all over my hips, thighs, and breasts, so I assumed I'd get them badly with pregnancy. It's still early but remarkably not a single one.

I don't have one yet. I thought I had stretch marks a month or two ago but I actually don't have any. I don't remember when linea negra appeared last time!

Yes, I think linea negra always goes away? Not even sure what causes it!
I think we will install the car seat base about a month before due date. Also because we need to reconfirm the expiration dates. DS will be getting a new harness booster seat with the completion discount so he's super excited for that and we will do that as soon as we get the coupon.
For the hospital im only bringing toiletries and going home outfits for me and LO. Flip flops, medications, and some kind of comfy shirt for nursing/visitors. But I won't switch to pants in the hospital because they are checking you out "down there" often and pants would make that much harder.
I don't have linea nigra yet. With DS I had it by this point and it was dark all the way from top to bottom. It was still a faint line when I found out I was pregnant this time (a year after I had DS). It has since disappeared though.
On a side note DH is convinced it's a girl this time based on the fact that I don't have one and it was so pronounced with DS. Very sound reasoning right?
No linea negra for me. I didn't have one with dd1 either. However, my stretch mark scars are out of control from my first pregnancy and I can tell they're growing with this one. By the time she's born, I'll have them all the way up to my boobs, covering my entire stomach.

No linea for me but I didn't last time either. My stretch marks from DS are back in all their glory. I haven't noticed new or different than last time but I definitely got lots and doubt I could tell anyway. Thank you genetics.

I feel ya. My stretch marks cover pretty much my entire stomach. Really thick ones. It sucks.

I have stretch marks all over my shoulders from a growth spurt when I was like 12, so I knew I'd get a ton, my skin is just really prone to them I guess.

My brother got them as a teen from growth spurts and my mom got them horribly from pregnancy so I figured I had no chance. I was right. I read a blog once where a mom told her kids that it was healed tiger scratches from a time a tiger attacked her and they thought she was amazing for it.
No linea for me yet, getting some small stretch marks on my lower stomach. I'm surprised because I feel like the skin is so much tighter on my upper stomach and I don't have any there yet. I imagine they are coming, I definitely have some marks from growth spurts on my hips.
I don't have a linea negra yet or stretch marks, but I'm definitely expecting stretch marks. Like a few others, I got a bunch from growth spurts throughout the years.
I have a very faint linea negra. I was just trying to remember when it showed up with DD and can't actually think of it. It was pretty dark and it lasted for at least 9 months PP but faded to nothing so it wasn't super dark that whole time.
I don't think I commented on the hospital bag front, but I definitely overpacked last time.
Things I found most important for me were a nursing tank and bra as part of my going home outfit. I left the gown on the whole time I was there pretty much.
Pads. I left the giant hospital ones on for when I was there and in the gown, but I felt like I couldn't really walk in them without looking crazy so I preferred to go home in my own pad. I also bought some hanes her way underwear and I liked the tighter fit they gave than the hospital underwear. At least when I put my own clothes on. I actually remember i put the pad on the hanes and then put the mesh undies over top (since they were more like shorts) to sort of keep everything in place.
Black pants...I can't imagine leaving in any other color. I also had baggy pants that sort of looked like yoga pants but weren't super tight. I felt like if I had tight pants you could totally tell that I had a giant thick pad on. Maybe that is just a me thing

That's exactly what I wore home after having DS1 and DD, black baggy yoga type pants. Those hospital pads are massive and I didn't want anyone to see it, either.

When I came home with DS I wore old black yoga pants home because they were comfy and black!! I also just wore a nursing tank with a zip-up hoodie over it for warmth. I was also most comfortable coming home in a regular pad and some decent underwear (Hanes like mentioned above). I went for total comfort for me the first 48 hours home and just wore the hospital gown when I was there. Why risk ruining my stuff when I could ruin theirs.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I've just added "pack hospital bag" to my weekend to-do list.
I have a question for you STMs. Talk to me about pads. I've actually never used one before in my life (I started with tampons with my very first period when I was 15! Advantage of being a late bloomer, I guess). What brand/absorbancy do I want to stock up on for postpartum?
frecklesnbrains They will definitely give you some pads to use in the hospital. I would buy two different kinds for when you get home-some super/heavy pads and some light absorbency or panty liner ones. I'm not sure which brand, I just got the Target brand. Everyone's PP bleeding is different, but for me, it lasted about 2 weeks and tapered off so I didn't want to wear such thick pads that second week. I know some people who bleed for a few days, and others who bleed for 6 weeks! Yikes.
They give you these amazing giant underwear and pads in the hospital-so I definitely used those for the first few days.
I made a list today for my hospital bag! I didn't pack it because I think I need to use most of the stuff I'll put in there, but at least I'll have a list and won't be as frantic if my water breaks or something like that...

Thanks txmommy14! Yeah I'm just making a list right now too, and making sure I buy a few essential items that I'll need postpartum. I figure the actual packing of the bag can be done in 5 min if it needs to once I have a well-thought-out list.
frecklesnbrains, Exactly! Good idea! And I figure if I am in pain or go into labor and need someone to pack my bag, if I have a list, at least someone else can pack it for me, so I am trying to be detailed like "Black Old Navy yoga pants" just in case!
frecklesnbrains I used a bunch of different pad brands and didn't have any issues with any of them. The best were probably Always and Target brand. I pretty much only used the heavy flow ones because I bled heavily for 8 weeks PP.
