We are up. Last night my SIL gave DS an okay to wake clock. He woke up at 6:15 but the green light wasn't set to go off until 6:45. He kept checking it and when it turned green he yelled "mom!! It's green now! I did poo poos!" (He's in diapers). I'm proud he understands the clock but I feel like a mom fail that he sat in poop for a half hour.
Now we are watching Land Before Time so I can drink coffee. DH was out with friends until 2:30 so we are letting him sleep a little longer
Wow that's awesome that he gets the clock already melody330! We tried it with DD at that age and she didn't give an F about it. It wasn't until she was 3.5 that she was into it.

I totally laughed on the inside when he opened it. I never thought he would understand. Let's see if it lasts lol!
glaze, nope had nothing to do with this kid. The area where I let him pass me was pretty tight, but still. It was weird. Congrats on passing the glucose test! I have so much anxiety I'm going to fail despite passing last time.
I could see if you were at least engaging with him some kids tend to get weird (in my experience) so that is really crazy! Good luck at your glucose! I was super nervous too even though I passed both previous times. My Dr said if you've passed before your chances of not passing are low.

I'm doing a 10k today. I signed up for a random race that was close to home and inexpensive. Saw that it supported education so I was all about it. I just got here and apparently it's some Indian organization. I think I saw 2 other non-Indians here. Feeling kind of like an outcast! But hey education is universal so I'm going to run my white girl heart out!

Hi, my name is CabbageCabbage and I am a zulily addict.
I am really frugal but something about that "only 2 left" message in red gets me dropping $75 here and $100 there. I'm officially done. Once the 8 items I ordered today arrive.

Do you live somewhere with a large population of people of Indian descent? That's pretty cool - have fun and good luck!
We ran the numbers today and came to the conclusion that we cannot afford for me to take any mat leave needless to say I am beyond upset. Unless we miraculously sell the house or my board changes the pay out policy for our top up I can't even take that. It's stupid. They top us up to full salary for 8 weeks, but don't pay it out until the end of the 8th week, so if you can't afford to live on EI alone you can't even use the 8 weeks of top up we're entitled to. Such bullshit.

Ray do you mean you can't afford more than 8 weeks or plan to go back after giving birth? I'm going to be really blunt, you simply cannot go back to work without a few weeks off. I mean 6 is a bare bare minimum. If you need to live off a credit card two months or something, do it.
I will have until September off because it is the summer holidays. The school board would pay to top me up for sept and oct but won't pay it out until Nov 1st. because we can't afford for me to just be on EI (if we could I'd take the full 12 months) I can't take advantage of the top up and will have to go back when school starts back up.

Ray oh no! That's really odd that they pay out on the eighth week. My board pays out on the next pay period as soon as EI is approved. So I'm looking at August. What I did last time was take that lump sum and divide it over 12 months to use in addition to my EI. I hope you can work it so you get some time off!

Ray, yeah I live in Silicon Valley outside San Francisco. With all of the tech companies here, there is a large population of Indians so it makes sense. The race was fun and I got 1st place for women! A good morning.
I'm so sorry about your maternity leave. I thought Canada was better about it then the US. I understand about money being tight, but take care of yourself.

I don't think I realized you live in the same area

Sorry Ray. I had to go back to work when DD was 6.5 weeks old and it was so incredibly hard. I hope you can figure out some way to make it work to stay home a little more.

Thanks - Canada is pretty good - we get 12 months of mat leave paid through employment insurance but there is a limit. So I will only make less than 2/3 of what I make now on EI, whereas if I were lower income, I could receive my entire salary. I can't complain because it means I have a good job, it's just not feasible for us with our current expenses. And our board policy is junk lol

Hard physically or just the being away part?
Idk how I'm going to do MOTN feedings, then get up and go to work. That and just leaving him when he's so little seems wrong.
Also thank you everyone for letting me complain. I realize that what I'm left with is still more then some get and I am grateful for that time at least.

I went back at 6 weeks with DD and had no problems physically because she was a good sleeper until about 8-12 weeks when she started having stomach issues that turned out to be a milk intolerance. But then once that was ironed out we were good again.
Even with a C-section I was physically great, but I also worked in the same day care that she attended so I could go see her on my lunches if I wanted.
I would just suggest to your H that he has to do one feeding if you have multiples during the night. What I am thinking we will do if I am on days and getting up at 4 am is that H will take the first MOTN feeding giving me a chunk of sleep. Here would be a hypothetical feeding schedule based on every 3 hours:
Me feed them at 9 and then head to bed.
H feed them at 12.
Me at 3-4 am and then start getting ready.
H up at 5 am to get kids up and to daycare so I can leave for work.

Mostly emotionally. I cried every day on the way to work. I also think I knew our road to another baby wouldn't be straightforward because I remember mourning what could possibly be the only time I experienced having a newborn. But it was hard physically in that DD was still waking up every two hours to eat at that time and I was EBF. Pumping was also tough physically at work too. Coffee became my friend.
Ray, I feel like I would live off credit cards or something for those 8 weeks. I mean if it's only a portion of your salary you'll be missing I would pay whatever bills you had to with a credit card and then pay off your balance when you get the top off at the end of the 8 weeks. I really feel like I would do anything I had to to get through those 8 weeks like borrow the money from my parents since you'll have the means to pay it back at the end.

lovegrilledcheese, yeah I think I remember you are in northern CA too! I moved here last summer (in the South Bay). We had to pick a place to live quickly so we did that for a year, but now we are house hunting so my H can be closer to work. He works in Mt View so we are looking up there and surrounding areas, and I just want to cry with how much money we will be spending on rent. And so many of the places we are looking at aren't even nice, yet are expensive. I am enjoying living here, but the cost of living is the one huge downside (as I'm sure you and everyone else who lives here knows).
So my husband took advantage of me. lol He is getting fast food for dinner because he knew I wouldn't know what I wanted to make or even would eat. lol It seems instead of eating for two, I sleep for two.

While I'm in no position to tell you what to do financially Ray, beebe makes good points. It breaks my heart seeing moms go back to work when their babies are 6 weeks or younger due to financial reasons. Even 12 weeks is too little in my opinion. It's absolutely absurd that stuff like this is still happening in 2016 in first world countries. Babies need their moms at that age. I could go on and on about how much the system sucks when it comes to maternity leave.

MH plays into this all the time. "Are you sure you feel like cooking? I can pick us up something while you relax if you'd like". Our grocery budget is shot.
