DS has decided to start this new thing while nursing where he starts whipping his head back and forth while my nipple is firmly in his mouth. OUCH!!! And just now he kept pulling off for no reason, and my boob was really full, so it kept dripping everywhere.

Quoting myself to say my friend just told me that when babies shake their head around while your boob is in their mouth, it means they want milk to come out faster. So when he starts doing it I switch him to the other boob.

Ha so the opposite of what I thought! Maybe I'll try that next time and see how he does.
My DS does this too - i think he's frustrated because he's getting more used to the instant gratification of bottles. I'm not sure what to do about it, I try doing breast compressions but it doesn't really help :-\
I pumped yesterday and my H gave his first midnight feeding. She only ate an ounce which is how much I think she normally eats because she's done eating in about five minute when she's on the boob from 10-6 am. No wonder she sleeps only 2 hours! Any suggestions for keeping her feeding longer at night?

I'm having the same issue at night. The only things I can think of are to get her less cozy, and/or to switch to a bottle at night because it's easier to keep it in their mouths than your own nipple.

Not sure your sleeping situation but we turn a (not bright) light on, turn sound machine off, and unswaddle for motn feedings.

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll have to make her less comfortable. I'll have to trade her falling back asleep quickly for her sleeping longer.

Yeah it's a hard balance! Sometimes I will unswaddle, change diaper, feed one side, then reswaddle and feed the other side in hopes that towards the end of that side she will start to doze off and I can put her down easily. It's always just a matter of luck though!
ETA: I think you're sometimes doing bottles so you could do the same type of thing, after half of the bottle, reswaddle, then give the rest.

I keep trying to do this with DS, but my problem is always that he poops and then I have to I swaddle him and change him and he gets all awake again!

After having a baby who wouldn't let me put him down all day the 2.5 stretch we just got seems like heaven. All day Leo has been feeding, falling asleep but then waking if I put him down or hand him over and crying for more food. And repeat for 14 hours. I was so sure, putting him down tonight, that I was in for a short stint before he realised I was gone again. But 2.5 hours is our best night stretch since he was home.
This kid keeps faking me out. Closes his eyes for a few minutes, I start to fall asleep, and he is up again. I am so tired. And the todler is sick, so she wakes up every time DH leaves her side, and freaks out, so I am dealing with the baby totally on my own. Go to sleep!!!

DS is notorious for this. Just did it now. Went down peacefully and easily after nursing, and is now stirring in his PnP. I should go pick him up because he won't fall back asleep on his own. Ugh...
Last night I did a "twilight feed" with ry (he didn't really wake up at all but ate) at 11 and he didn't wake up to eat until 245... Boyah! I'll take it!
OH MY GOD why the hell won't this kid stay sleeping?! It's not even to eat. We went to bed at 8:00 and now he has been up at 8:45, 10:45, 1:45, and now 3:15. I had to back to sleep, but he woke up again like 1 minute after I put him back down! GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!
I haven't been getting any sleep the last few days. I made DH stay downstairs with DS while I slept 6 hours upstairs in our bed by myself. I'm still tired, but better than the 4-hour nights I've been doing.

This has been my last two nights. I gave in and let him sleep on my chest because it was the only way he would sleep longer than 30 minutes.

R is starting to stir. Do I wake him to get this show on the road or lay here and enjoy the quietness until he wakes more? Decisions decisions.
I literally struggle with this every night lol
I try not to disturb even though sometimes that results in me just waiting for her to wake up. But a lot of time she will stir and go back to sleep and I want her to have practice going back to sleep on her own when she's stirring! Probably means she's transitioning in a sleep cycle and ideally she can do that without waking up fully. The other night I was wide awake waiting for her and thinking it was any minute. I was just rocking and watching her, reading stuff online. Only like 20 minutes though luckily. But the first night she did a long stretch (6 hrs) I woke at the 4.5 hr mark and then was sort of sleeping the rest of the time, hearing her stir and thinking "this has to be it! She's getting up now".
After two days of waking up around every 45 min to 1.5 hours LO is back to giving us a 4 hour stretch of sleep followed by a 3 hour...lets hope the last stretch is another 3 hour! BUT is it normal to want to kill H in this moment? I ask him to do two things in the night since I do the feedings: 1) Swaddle him (LO breaks out of every swaddle every time) and 2 burping after LO nurses. Tonight he's gotten so upset every time I have asked him to do one of those things. Meanwhile I am rejoicing because it's been so long between nursing that I have to pump! I hate that he's being such an ahole. He (overall) gets pretty good sleep, so stop stomping across the way to LO's room and back. Ugh.
