I did a hypnobirthing class with my first pregnancy and I was SO glad I did. Even if you don't plan to hypnobirth nor go Med-free it was SO valuable because I went into labor with ZERO fear or anxiety about the birthing process. I ended up getting the epidural like a PP after 24 hours of labor only because I was throwing up on every contraction and I was completely out of fuel but it ended up taking another 12 hours before the baby was born so I was VERY thankful to a. Be mentally and emotionally prepared for the long process b. To be prepared to endure pain because even if your plan is epidural, you won't get it until after a fair number of contractions and you need to accept that there will be pain. Totally manageable, but pain nonetheless. Also to add: we learned hypno-breathing but once I went into labor my body did what it wanted. I ended up with my own rhythmic breathing that got me through my contractions just fine. You might have read 20 books and taken 10 classes but your body will do what it instinctively knows to do.
We aren't doing a class but we are going to tour the maternity ward even though we were only there a year and half ago. Mainly I want to go scope the different ways into and out of the hospital. With the last one it was the middle of the night, all doors were locked except for emergency room. My husband got lost. It was kind of crazy.
