I know this is not about decorations but just about parties in general so putting it here rather than drag up the other thread.. for those of you intending to have somewhat large/long gatherings, what time are yall planning to have your parties start? I know we'll have upwards of 40ish people just family +whatever friends and kids, backyard cookout on a Saturday type thing. I was shooting for early afternoon and then realized I need to avoid nap, so probably shouldn't start until after afternoon nap? Am I overthinking this?

We're doing a pool party/BBQ, so the invitation says party starts at 3, which is safely after nap time for us. I figure we'll start the grill around 4, so food will be 4:30/5, cake smashing probably not too far after that. I figure we'll try to get all the main events wrapped up by 6-ish, so those with little ones that need to go to bed early can leave by then, anyone who wants to stay later isn't getting kicked out. The brilliant part of our plan is the party is at my parents house, so I figure if DS starts to melt down after his bedtime around 7, we can always pack up and take the birthday boy home at that point, or try to put him down in his pack 'n play at their house depending on how much fun is being had (there will also be family without small children there, and plenty of alcohol).
ETA - Not over-thinking. I put way too much thought into the "perfect" time for our party.

jillywilly that sounds exactly like my party, to a T. Pool, grill, at my parents house. Have been back and forth between going early like 11AM lunch time bbq early and getting things over with by late afternoon, or going 3PM like you said. Knowing my and SOs families, no matter how early we start it will never just end, so yea, 3 is probs better. Thanks! I am terrible at making decisions lately.

budders if there is any activity going on at all, Jasmine will skip her afternoon nap altogether. All of a sudden it will be like 4:45 and we are very very done. I have to be able to get her to her bedroom in the dark with white noise, or she's not napping. Part of my reason for overthinking everything surrounding sleep is our severe lack of it lol! I think I'll have to force an early nap and start later.

This, only ours starts at 2:30 because grandpa has to work until 2.

We're doing ours at 1pm, which is actually kind of right when both boys are napping. But the goal is to put them down for early naps so we can set things up. That way we don't have to juggle entertaining kids and decorating. It's at our house, so if they're sleeping when guests first arrive it's not a big deal.
I finally got the proofs back for Gianna's invitation! Ordering them to be printed on a white metallic/iridescent cardstock with purple envelopes. Is "Please RSVP" redundant? Or is RSVP Americanized so that we should still use please?

Do you guys know if a banner would stick to a brick wall? The restaurant said I could hang a banner/garland but weren't sure what to use to get it to stick.
Also, if that doesn't work, should i just hang the banner off the 6 foot dessert table? Or is that too low?
Eta: that's what the restaurant looks like inside. And those are decorations payed for by an acquaintance ( and what I meant by crazy Russians and their decorations. DNW.

We are doing a large picnic party, and are starting ours at noon. On the weekends when he is with us, V usually doesn't take his afternoon nap until 230 or 3:00, so I figure that works well for us.

Plus it gives us more time to set up in the morning. Plus we don't want people at are our house all day (which I know will end up happening if we start early). Jealous of your piñata! H looked at me like I was crazy for thinking it would be cute at a 1yo birthday party. Pictures are a must!
mrsmonogrammed I'm planning on two piñatas actually; one for kids(candy) and one for adults(mini booze, couple of gift cards, maybe bath & body works minis)!
I never serve soda at my parties because not enough people drink it and then we're stuck with a bunch of soda after the party.
I do water and one non-water beverage. And alcohol. Because the only thing fun about a kid's party for adults is the alcohol. For BH's party we'll have water and a milkshake bar with alcohol for spiking said milkshakes if the grownups so choose.
. I wouldn't do alcohol because of my mom. In this case it's for the best because we would have needed a permit and insurance, neither of which I wanted to do.
I completely spaced on that. Sorry! Yes, in that case I would do no alcohol and no soda.
We have a completed high chair banner. Well it's been done for a few days, I just wasn't 100% sure I liked it. Who knows, I still may change the 'One' before pictures or his party.

How long do the high chair banners take to put together? I feel like I should create one to make the high chair look like part of the party.
I did all the ribbon cutting and tying one night while I was pumping, so about 20 minutes. The mid part of the banner took about 15 minutes to cut and sew.
Is anyone doing party favors? We'll have 8-10 kids there from 2-10 and I cannot think of any party favor that would be fun for everyone.
I know a lot of people hate them, but I adore party favors. I'm making stick horses for mine. For LBB's first birthday I made little buckets of his "favorite things" -books, balls, and bubbles (and puppy dog ears since the theme was snips, snails, and puppy dog tails). I usually try to match them to the theme and avoid candy and crappy dust collecting toys.
