Our daughter E.ll.ie was born a little more than a week ago. She was six lbs, one ounce. Things went smoothly with the labor and we are all smitten with her. She seems like a chill baby already. She only cries when she is hungry.
After a night of false labor, I started having trackable contractions on a Saturday. We decided to go in. Of course the Uber driver took the most random, circuitous way to the hospital, but I wasn't in a lot of huge pain. The admittance area was quiet, luckily. I was at 6 cm but couldn't really feel contractions anymore. I'm not sure what that means--do I have a high tolerance for pain?
I elected to have an epi once we got to the room because I remember a lot of pain when I got to 7 or 8 cm with my son. I was really sensitive to the medicine before, so the anesthesiologist dialed back the epi, per my instructions. (My mouth and tongue started going numb before DS's birth). This time I was also a little sensitive because I started feeling heart palpitations and nausea. We called the nurse in and she gave me some oxygen. I felt better after that. When I hit 7 cm, the OB burst my waters and that got things rolling really quickly. I could feel the sensation of bigger contractions. I told DH that I felt more pressure in my rectum and wondered if the baby was ready to be born. But I said that I didn't really want to bother the nurse with a call. He said that we should probably contact her. I guess he can read me pretty well because the nurse came in and said that it was "go time." But she said not to push until the doctor came in. I was ready to push at that point (about two hours after admittance).
They put me in stirrups and I probably pushed three or four times before our girl was born. It was painful at the end with the ring of fire. The nurse politely asked me to stop screaming. (I am normally a quiet and reserved person). I really concentrated on the last big contraction and pushed her out. The staff this time was amazing and honored all of our requests including skin-to-skin and letting the cord pulse before cutting it.
She's been a dream and so sweet. My mom says that she has my eyes but my husband's nose. Sorry I can't share a picture. We don't have online profiles so want to keep pics on the downlow.
DS loves his sister but is having some emotional episodes with hitting and kicking us. I thought all my stress would come from the baby, but his tantrums are really affecting me. I hope that can get back to normal soon. If any of you have any experience with toddlers lashing out physically because of their emotions, please message me. I would love to have some additional support in this.
