Question for those on Levothyroxine

I'm on 50mg Levothyroxine and the insert that comes with the script says not to take anything within 4 hours. I've been spacing out my vitamins, but now I'm on 2x a day Progesterone. Do you take your first does with the Levo or space it out like everything else.

Is your progesterone a suppository, PIO or orally taken?

If it's taken orally, I would try to space them out with the Levo. At least 2 hours but 4 is optimal. I can't take anything within 4 hours of Synthroid because it messes up my levels. So if I take Levo at 7, I'd try to get an 11:00 dose of progesterone in and then follow the directions for the rest of the day (12 hours apart, I'm assuming, so that would make your second dose right before bed). If it's a suppository or PIO, no worries there because it's not competing in your GI tract.

ETA: if you take it orally, it's okay to take it with your vitamins. Apparently vitamins and pharmaceutical medications are processed differently and won't compete for absorption in the same way. I usually take my anti-anxiety med right before lunch and my vitamins right after lunch just because of the empty stomach issue.

lemonliz it's oral, thanks for the info. That's what I was thinking. I feel like I should be 80 years old when I organize my pill case every week.

Oh hell yeah, I feel ya. I have two pill organizer cases - one small one for meds and one big for vitamins - and MH laughs at me every week when I fill them up like an old lady.

I was only ever told that I shouldn't take the levo at the same time as the folic acid - apparently the folic acid will "cancel out" the impact of the levo. Although it sounds from others that this may not be the case?

Ann612, I've always just been told nothing within 4 hours. Some endocrinologists are more lax and suggest nothing within 30 minutes to 2 hours, but I had trouble getting my T4 levels up/TSH levels down for the first few years after my thyroid was ablated. If what you're doing is currently working, there's no reason to change it though. I've never heard that about folic acid specifically, but calcium and iron definitely interfere which is why a multivitamin needs 4 hours of spacing.

Mine agrees with lemonliz. No other pills w/i 4 hours and I have to wait 30mins-1hour to have breakfast after taking thryoid med.
