I went in planning another med free birth, which I got, but in the end it was not by choice.
Labor was a lot harder this time than with DD.
I went in on Friday for my 40 (+1) week appointment. I was 1 or 2 cm, and still thick. The doctor checking me stripped my membranes.
I started contractions around 8pm that night. By 9pm they were 1 minute long and 3.5 minutes apart. I never got a break, they only got closer together, and I had back labor again the whole time. He was sunny side. I had planned to labor at home a long time, but since it was my second I also did not want to wait too long. The doctor said to go in once the contractions were a minute long, 5 minutes apart for an hour. By 11pm they had been 1 minute long, and 3 minutes apart for close to 2 hours, so even though I had not been in labor long I decided to go in. We had my doula meet us at the hospital, she was so great, i would not have survived that awful labortion withough her help.
Since I had been 2 cm earlier in the day they did not even check me in triage, they immediatly admitted me.
I got checked and was only a 3 or 4 That was dissapointing since with my first I was at 8 cm when I got to the hospital.
I labored on the ball most of the time.
At some point the nurse checked me and I was at 8 cm. Later the midwife (who also delivered DD, which is funny because she is not even with my practice, but was the off hours on call person both times, and I really, really liked her) checked me and said I was 6 cm, and I must have been mid contraction when the nurse checked. She had asked if I wanted my water broken, and I declined since I was already in so much pain, but when she checked me it ended up breaking. Immediatly my contractions were SO MUCH WORSE. At this point I said I wanted an epidural, but of course this was around 3am on a Saturday morning, and the anesthesiologist had to be called in.
I was feeling full on back and front contractions (I later found out he was traverse for part of my labor, fun). I started screaming with my contractions they were so bad, and I could not catch my breath. The midwife checked me, he was still high up, but she asked me to start pushing to get him down. I pushed for a bit and he moved down a lot.
I even looked in the mirror and saw him crowning, and felt this head. I could tell I was not stretching well though.
He started to have serious heart deceleration (he had an internal monitor at this point) so I ended up with an episiotomy to get him out fast. I got to help pull him out and to my chest. He eventually started nursing while I was being sewn up. We got delayed cord clamping, and DH cut the cord. I tore a good bit as well as having the episiotomy. But DS is healthy and doing great.
Isaac was 7 lbs, 9 oz, 20 inches long. Born Saturday, 4/30 at 4:39am (just over 8 hours of labor). The anesthesiologist did not make it in before I was pushing, so I did go med free, though I would not have regretted the epi one bit.
