So DS hasn't pooped in 50 hours. Should I be worried? He is EBF, and he doesn't seem like he is in pain. He is managing to burp and fart up a storm. What are normal baby pooping habits?! MH thinks I should call the doctor but I feel like he's probably fine? Ugh FTM poo problems....
Our ped told us that breastfed babies either poop all the time, or could go a week without pooping and then have a huge blowout. She said either is perfectly fine and healthy.
I was just going to ask the same question exactly!! R hasn't pooped since Saturday night. He went from poop in every diaper to nothing. I remember my other kids slowing down frequency around this age but not this abruptly.
Since he isn't in pain I was going to wait and see what happens today and check with the pedi tomorrow if he doesn't poop before then but I was curious if anyone else's LO was experiencing the same thing.
How old is he? I've read that after the first 4-6 weeks, breastfed babies won't poop as often, as little as every few days to a week. My kid is still pooping all the damn time.
He's 5 weeks today! The last few poops were huge, explosive poops.

I have heard it is normal as long as they poop at least once a week. Seems crazy to me, but if LO isn't uncomfortable I wouldn't worry. If he seems to get uncomfortable you can try the rectal thermometer. Sometimes that gets stuff moving, but be ready for a mess.
We have the opposite problem, but I still feel for you! I'm pretty sure that with EBF babies, it's totally normal. You can always call the pedi to double check, but I'm guessing they will tell you it's ok as long as he's not uncomfortable.

Yea DS just pooped on me. While I was changing a poopy diaper. Then he pooped again like 15 mins later. I can't wait for the poops to slow down!!
Is it bad that I never know how often he poops or pees?
He'll probably poop today.
DH is in charge of most diaper changes since this kid is permanently attached to my boobs, and H is tracking his diaper output...on a chart next to the changing table. He's slightly crazy. I didn't think anything of it until he was freaking out. He will poop when he poops is my outlook.
richaroodo any luck with LO's poop situation today? We are still waiting.
He finally pooped around dinner time and it was massive. His diaper before bed had poop too.
Who knew I would be so excited over baby poop I hope your LO doesn't make you wait much longer.
When we were still in the hospital, DS had a few small poops but just wasn't peeing at all. So when he was about 24 hours old I was in the hospital shower and DH had DS on his chest. All of a sudden I hear "Good job buddy! Way to go! Yayyyy!" I asked DH what he did..."He peed on me!!"
DH was so excited that DS finally peed for the first time that he didn't even care it was on him. Who would've thought?
Of course I got S all dressed up to go meet some of my family and 10 minutes after we got there, major poop blowout. All over the kickee pants. S must hate them because every kickee pants outfit he's worn he has either peed or pooped all over them.

*lurker*
My ebfed infant pooped about once a week. The longest he went was 10 days. Sure made cloth diapering easier. When he did go though, holy moly. If baby isn't straining, crying, or having abormal looking stools, I wouldn't worry.
URMySunshine77 we just had a poop explosion after a 4 day stretch and if filled the diaper front to back. Amazingly, it did not leak out the sides. I think he feels better today, but he sure was a grumpy Gus all day.
I am jealous of all the LO's having regular poops. S seems to go 3-4 days of no poop, then he'll have an explosion, wait a day, then more poop. I wish he would poop every other day at least. He is a much happier camper after pooping. At least he farts freely and doesn't need to strain so much to do that anymore!

Bringing this to the top as I think LO is constipated.
Normally I wouldn't worry about how long since he pooed but it's been 3 days and the poor wee thing has been screaming all morning in what seems to be pain.
So taking the advice 'as long as he's not straining or in pain' I'm not so relaxed about the length of time anymore. Going to try the constipation drops DH bought but anyone dealt with actual constipation yet?
Gutted he's so unhappy as we seemed to have finally settled back into happy baby lately and now he's gone again : (

My pedi recommend 1oz of baby prune juice. I haven't had to use it yet but LO has had minor constipation so I have it in case I need it. GL
We've dealt with this with DS1. Rectal thermometer our even just a qtip with Vaseline will do the trick. When it's in, give it a gentle jiggle to stimulate the rectal muscles. My pedi also recommended extra water, maybe 1-2oz once a day in between feedings. I didn't do this with DS1 because he was so small and didn't eat very much. I didn't want him to fill up with water. We would mix an ounce of prune juice or pear juice in the bottle with the milk or formula. If all else fails, you can do glycerin suppositions.
I do want to add that babies' poop habits change around 8-10 weeks and they tend to go less frequently. It could just be the normal transition for LO. This happened to us a few weeks ago.
