We found out yesterday that we're having two girls! Now the naming can begin. DH and I have different tastes in names so we need some help. DH tends to like more popular names than I do. I love old-fashioned names like Lydia (but that one is out). The names need to go along with DD's, Elaina Grace. I'm welcome to other suggestions as well.
DH: Allison Erin Leah Natalie Rachel
Me: Addilyn Erica Lauren Lilah Myra
Other (possible MNs): Lynn Lyra Makenna Marie Mira Miren

Allison -- keep, but spell it with one l, Alison Erin -- toss Leah -- keep Natalie -- keep Rachel -- keep Addilyn -- toss very, very far Erica -- toss Lauren -- keep Lilah -- toss Myra -- toss
Lynn -- keep Lyra -- toss Makenna -- toss far, very, very far Marie -- keep Mira -- toss Miren -- keep
Marie and Lynn are follow-the-dots middle names to me and go with just about everything. Other than that I would consider the possible middle names as first names and go back to the drawing board for middle names.
If I had to pick a combination based on the names I would keep, it would be Natalie Miren.
hangry I should have mentioned that DH absolutely wants to use Allison. It's definitely not my favorite, but we need four names so I'm not opposed to using it somewhere.
What do you all think of these FN combinations? Allison and Lauren Allison and Rachel Allison and Natalie

If Allison is a lock then I don't love it with Lauren because it's a little too close to rhyming.
I like Allison and Natalie together the best.
Edit: and I think Allie and Nat are cute NNs together as well.

His list: I like Leah. Leah Miren or Leah Marie would be lovely.
Your list: Not a fan of any of them. And just NO to Addilyn. The name is spelled Adeline, and the nn Addie is extremely trendy. Lauren is ok, but I prefer Laura or Laurel. Lauren Marie, Laura Marie, Laura Miren, Laurel Marie, or Laurel Miren.
MNs: I love Lyra and Mira. Is there a reason these aren't fn options? And obviously, I love Marie and Miren. Makenna is atrocious.
Eta: Oh yeah, twins! Ok so Allison is another ok option, but I prefer it spelled Alison. So Alison Lyra and Leah or Lauren/Laurel/Laura with Marie or Miren.
You've all been very helpful! I think we're leaning towards Allison and Lauren, but I have two more questions.
How do you pronounce Lauren? I was thinking Lahr-en (like Laura), but a lot of people say Lor-en (which is actually easier for me to say).
For MNs I like Allison Olivia and Lauren Elizabeth, but I realized that those MNs sound very similar. Is that a deal breaker? How often would their MNs be used together where people would notice?

I say Lor-en.
I like Olivia and Elizabeth as MNs and think they won't be used together nearly enough for people to notice. I don't know the MNs of any of my friends' kids and I only know a very few MNs of my nieces and nephews.

To me, Lauren sounds like Law-ren. It's my middle name and that's how I say it, so I guess closer to your Lor-en choice. Also to me I say the "Lau" syllable of Lauren and Laura the same.
I would probably pick a different middle name for one of the girls, but it's not a huge deal.
General comment that many of the names in you and your H's lists have a 1980's vibe to me, like they were names of classmates of mine in school. Other than that, they are all seemingly okay names except a big fat NO to Addilyn and Makenna.
I agree with your comment Widget123. I absolutely love DD's name (Elaina) but we haven't been able to agree on anything I like nearly as well as her name. These names feel very plain and boring to me. I don't know what to do.

You still have plenty of time to expand your search and broaden your list! I suggest you browse SSA baby names list (if you did it before, do it again), past the first 100, and see what you come up with. This board can help you with more suggestions as well.

I did it once, but I think I'll do it again. Thanks!

In the Midwest Loren, Lawrin, Laurin are all pretty much the same thing. I say it like Loren but I say Laura like Lora and think Lawwh-rah sounds nasally and off.

I agree. Allison and Lauren don't feel like they're in the same class as Elaina. I think Natalie and Leah are really the only ones in the same league.
