Coming out of lurkdom again...I think we're going with Elizabeth for DD2 due in a few weeks (yay! It's long been my favorite name and I'm very grateful DH has agreed to it). Our plan is to see what organically becomes her NN.
But because I'm curious what others may try to call her if we don't get our preferred NN out there fast enough...I'm polling my favorite Internet stranger baby name group: what's your favorite of the many Elizabeth NNs?

I think I'm with you - I'm drawn to Beth, Betty, Betsy more so than Liz, Lizzy, Izzy. I do like Libby though. And I know I'll try to stop anything that draws on the El- which feels so, so overdone (Ellie, Ella, Elsie, Elsa, etc - not sure if all those are "official" Elizabeth NNs but I know I want to stay away from anything like them)
Part of me likes the idea of going no NN and using the full Elizabeth, but I know there will be times that will feel like a mouthful

I love the full version of Elizabeth and I would probably go with that if it were me. I think if I was always calling her Elizabeth then the few times I shortened it out of haste I would probably just naturally end up calling her Liz because it's the beginning of the name. I don't know if that's just me though.

Another lurker, but a former co-worker's daughter is called Ellie, but I'm not sure how on point that should be. The mom is a bit of a whackadoo.
But my aunt went by Libby, and I have always loved it. I suggested Elizabeth for dd2, but DH shot it down because it's long, and we have a long last name. Dumb reason, right?

My DH was reluctant at first because of its popularity. I was willing despite my general dislike of popular names because (1) I've always loved it; (2) we know no one under 10 with the name; (3) it's popular-classic not popular-trendy, the latter of which is the type of popular I really don't like
Neither of us were ever turned off by its length, probably because we figured, at least in childhood, a NN was probably unavoidable.

I agree, and I really loved the name. But he didn't. But he's the one with the long name experience, his first name is 11 letters, his last is 10. His name never fits anywhere.
I love Elizabeth and it's a family name (spelled Elisabeth), but we can't use it because it doesn't go with our last name. Otherwise it would be my top choice.
I tend to prefer the Beth/Betsy nns vs the Liz/Liza ones. But part of it would also depend on flow with your last name.
When we were naming DD we were trying to decide between Josephine and Elizabeth. We love nicknames so we had them picked out- so either Josie or Betsy. Josie won out in the end, but Betsy is my favorite Elizabeth nn

I'm an Elizabeth and my parents were anti-nickname. They only called me by my full name. When I was 12, I announced that I would only answer to Liz. I've been Liz ever since. I don't particularly love the name Liz, but it's who I've been for such a long time that it would be very strange to go by anything else.
Lurker popping in, but DD is Elizabeth and we've always called her Libby so I'm partial to that One of my best friends is also an Elizabeth who goes by Liz, so I wanted to avoid using Liz or Lizzy. I also liked that Libby is not as popular of a nn as Liz or Ellie in our area.

One of my boss's daughters is Elizabeth Josephine and she goes by Elsie Jo. It's adorable for a 5 year old but I know they wanted her to have a name that had more adult nickname options for when she grew up.
Low Ovarian Reserve (low AMH), poor egg quality, abnormal EFT (glandular developmental arrest, endo). TTC with open ID donor sperm. Non-bio mommy to DD (born to DW 2013). IUIs 1-7 = BFN. IVF #1 Sept 2014: 8R, 5M, 3F, 5 day transfer of 1 morula = BFN. IVF#2 Jan/Feb 2015 13R, 11M, 9F, 5 day transfer of a 5AA blast, BFFN. FET#1 (DW as carrier) May 2015 5AA & 4AA = BFP! DD2 born February 2016
My favorite is Birdie, followed by Betsy and Bess/Bessie. With a namet like Elizabeth though, I wouldn't worry about others trying to nickname her before you do. I cannot think of another name with more nickname possibility, it isn't like Jennifer nickname Jen. I would assume people will call her Elizabeth and follow your lead on a nickname
