So, who has done this? Es is in 3 weeks... And I've literally done nothing because I have no idea what to do!!!!! All I know is I need to go shopping for something for both of us! to wear.
Did you send invitations? Who came? Did you have people over after? What did your LO wear? What did you wear? Did you have godparents / people stand with you?

E's baptism was back in April. I wanted to do something really small with just family but DH wanted a whole big thing - he's Greek so baptisms are like weddings. So we compromised and invited only 70 people (family and close friends) lol. Since mine was a big to do, we sent out invites and had it in a catering hall. We did whatever the priest told us to do (we had no instructions prior to the ceremony) - godparents held E while we sat next to him. E was in an all white outfit for the ceremony and after an hour into the reception I changed him into a different outfit so he would be more comfortable (short sleeve button down onsie, khakis and a bowtie). DH wore a suit and I wore a dress.

Well you knew I was going to respond
We're Catholic, so there's a lot of hoopla that goes into these things. I opted to invite family only since we both have large extended families. I'm most proud of the gorgeous handmade outfits my aunt made for my babies. My DD had beautiful, flowing gown that she embroidered her full name and date onto (in white). With C, it was more of a romper, but it had a little bow tie and satin vest (so it looks like 2 pieces). She also embroidered his initials and the date into his sleeve.

Ours is a little unique becayse we don't live in the same state as the baptism.
It's June 26th at the church I grew up in in MN. We will host a little brunch afterwards at the church because we don't have our house there, and my family is blended so it's awkward to host it at one of my parent's. We are doing simple, coffee, juice, pastries, bagels, muffins. It will be about 30 people, assuming everyone comes. I'm guessing closer to 20ish because I'm not sure that my dad's side of my extended family would come.
I'm going to make her baptism dress. I'll need to find something for myself and I should probably start working on that since I'll have to order it online.

Ours was back in Feb. We didn't do invites, I did a general event on facebook and called the elderly family and those who didn't have fb. DD2 wore a baptism dress that runs in the family. I wore a dress and DH wore dress pants and shirt but no tie which is appropriate for our church. Our god parents stood with us but they didn't have to, that was our choice. We met with the Rev before hand to discuss details.
We had a lunch after with sandwiches, munchies and desserts. Lots of photo taking and mingling.
Nothing major because my family is majority protestant and DHs family is athiest so only his parents and brother who lives here came. It was mostly my family and close family friends. Maybe 20-25 total

We did her dedication in April. We just invited my ILs to church that day and then we all went out for brunch after. But my family doesn't live around here.
For preparation we had a short class the week before, and had to pick a verse to be displayed with her picture while we were praying with our pastor.

We just dedicated Z at our home church in the states this weekend. We just word of mouth invited family in the area. We ended up with like 20 of them there and it was nice of them to come out for it. The way our church does it, is all family in attendance comes up on stage with you, so we had a big group up there.
I didn't overthink the outfits. I just dressed Z in a little plaid romper with a collar. He spent the entire day prior in a little suit and tie at a wedding so I wanted him to be a bit more comfortable. I wore a skirt, nothing fancy but semi-dressy compared to my normal attire. H wore khakis and a polo shirt.
My FIL is a pastor and we had him do the dedication, so it made it even more special to us.

So it sounds like it was pretty low key, family only? Lunch back at your house (for the most part) for those invited? Where did you guys get baptism outfits? Mine from my childhood is too small.

I just got an ivory special occasions dress at target. It was on sale for like $12. Bonus!

I love the first one!! If you get it will you report back on the fit because I might get it too.
I got the dress and it's even cuter in person. The fit is roomy- I usually wear a 6 and I'll have to exchange for a 4 or have it taken in. I lean towards having it taken in because then it will fit perfect. It's a great length, and good sturdy construction!

Woohoo!! I'm going to order it then! Thanks for the review!
