I've taken them for a few cycles after O to boost low progesterone but I've not needed it since I switched to Femara.
Here are some tips:
1) Run the capsule under water briefly before inserting, it will make it easier. 2) I would have sex before you insert the capsule, but that is personal preference. I just would rather not have more junk up there than I need to. We would have sex, I would get up and go to the bathroom and then insert the capsule and go to sleep. 3) I never had a large amount of yucky discharge, but some women do so panty liners are an easy solution. 4) My instructions were to "lay flat" for 30 minutes after inserting, but since I only had to do it once a day I did it at night. I'm not sure what you would do if you have to do it in the morning too.
Good luck and I would do the same thing in your shoes. Sometimes your corpus luteum just doesn't produce enough progesterone on its own. I would rather know that I did everything I could possibly do than wonder "what if".

aprilz81 it sounds like your suppositories were pills. The one I'm on (Crinone) is like a tampon filled with a gel you push up in there. Yours sounds much less goopy!
eameselephant I use panty liners and every 2-3 days do a gentle sweep in the shower to remove the buildup.

The only difference between the made for vag suppositories and the pills is ease of insertion. The pills are a bit hard to wrangle up there- and they're often blue, so look forward to smurf crotch.

I'm sorry getting you what you need is so difficult and I'm sorry the doctor was an ass. FYI- I have progesterone pills. Pills you swallow NOT insert. Make sure you know what kind you're getting. A big difference between the two is the one you swallow may give you more side effects and you should take it before bed. Mine make me pass the f out! FX for you!
The nurse called and left a message saying my doctor wants me on the suppositories. I haven't connected with her over the phone yet, but curious if anyone knows the positives/negatives of the suppositories vs. Oral pills? Pills have been fine, and certainly seem less messy. They are also a heck of a lot cheaper ($10 versus $170 for me).
I'm going to follow up with the doctor, but just wondering if anyone had any experience with both.
I think the suppositories are more effective because the progesterone is released near the uterus instead of being processed and moved around in your blood.
The suppositories also don't affect your blood work because it doesn't enter your blood stream.

No experience with oral but the suppositories are really NBD in my opinion. They can be messy, but it is temporary!
Also, mine started out to be that expensive, but my insurance company worked with my doctor's office and got something called a preauthorization for them, and they went back down to $10 after that. Have you talked to the pharmacy? They were so, so helpful in sorting that out. In the meantime, they let me fill like a week's worth of the RX so I could take them while they worked it out. It took about 3 days.
I've used both. The biggest difference for me was the side effects... The pills make me super tired and knocks me out. Both have worked well in keep my levels up. I'm on the oral pills and just take them at night before bed.
I take progesterone supplements with each cycle. I have taken them orally before, but it was like taking a sleeping pill. Since I have to take them twice daily there was no way I could do oral and still function. My RE suggested I do vaginal. I use the 200 mg oral capsules and insert vaginally. I don't get any side effects, but the progesterone is still rapidly absorbed. Sure, I have to wear a pantyliner, but it's no big deal. The capsules are cheap and my copay is only $7.50 a month. Maybe it could be an option for you.
