We were scheduled for a 730 am c section on Tuesday. We arrived at the hospital at 530 and did all the preliminary stuff. I had already had labs drawn and was typed and cross for blood because of the risk of the surgery. We were in the main OR preop which was sort of felt anticlimactic about the birth experience. The nurses were awesome. They monitored baby for 30 minutes and started two large IV's in my arms. Each surgeon came and met with me and there was one OB nurse that was assigned to through the surgery and post op. I started to cry when they were wheeling me down the hall. My husband couldn't come with me and that was really hard.
I knew a lot of the staff that was with me because I work at the hospital. The anesthesiologist I had worked with before and knew so that was nice. I had forgot that I wouldn't be able to be put under till right before the surgeon's were ready due to the anesthesia affecting the baby. So, I was hanging out naked while they prepped, inserted my catheter which sucked, and for some reason I thought my ass was on fire. The OR table was hot and they couldn't figure out why. My last concern was telling the anesthesiologist to make sure my butt didn't burn.
Ainsley was born at 811 am. I was in recover around 10. I was in terrible pain. The incision hurt. They couldn't get my pain under control. It took them awhile but they figured it out and I was wheeled up to the NICU. I got to see my baby girl and husband. It was wonderful. She was 5 lbs 5 oz which was big for a 34w5d. I didn't get to hold her but I got to touch her. The nurse said she looked great and were going to do a few things to determine our timeline. They wheeled me to post partum.
I ended up keeping my uterus. The placenta didn't cause too many issues and I didn't have any excessive bleeding. They took my tubes and sutured me up. I am a little sad that I have a vertical incision but am so happy to have a healthy baby. Our luck also was on our side because NICU said we could have the baby after 6 hours. She took to a bottle immediately and didn't have any issues with eating. They monitored her blood sugar on the post partum floor for 24 hours. Which stayed stable. We had to work on her temperature control as well.
We were fortunate enough to be released on Friday. We weren't expecting to come home with a baby. Granted we had to come home with scale and weigh her daily. We have had to do tube feedings with formula and breastmilk that is measured. She is currently 4 lbs 12.5 oz and has maintained that for the last two days. We will see the pedi more frequently until she grows more. But, I am so thankful for the luck that turned for us.
