How many ounces of formula are your little ones getting per day? My pedi commented that my guy was rapidly growing and maybe his caloric intake was too high especially in the form of formula (based on their office charts he's on the 9/12 mos range). He suggested cutting back on the formula and doing more solids but didn't give a clear idea on how much formula to give. He was kinda like "oh you will tell." DS was at four 7/7.5 ounce bottles when he had his appt last week. I've got him down to three 8 ounce bottles this week.
5/6 am 8 ounce bottle 8/9 am snack (usually yogurt or hard boiled egg or soft toast with pb) 9-10 nap 11/12pm 8 ounce bottle 1-3pm nap 3/3:30 snack (usually mashed fruit or pureed veggie) 6pm small serving of rice cereal or bits of what we are having (tonight was scrambled eggs and fruit) 6:30 bath 7:30ish last bottle He typically falls asleep after the bottle
I can't for the life of me remember this timeframe with DS1. I know the pedi likes most of their meals to be real food by 9 mos supplemented with formula and then all food no formula by 1.
DS2 seems ok with the food and bottle ratio but he's a relaxed baby 90% of the time so it's hard to tell.

So we've been told 24-32 oz per day. any more than 32oz of formula, the nutritional value becomes questionable. Less than 20 oz and dehydration can become an issue ( you didn't mention, is he getting water? Our pedi wants them drinking 4-6oz of water/day, and with the volume of food he's getting, a little water might be the key- he's drinking more formula because he's thirsty, not hungry maybe?

I did ask the pedi about water intake if I'm supposed to cut back on formula. He doesn't advise water by itself until 9 mos. He said the water content of the fruit and veggies should help balance it out. Although on hot days here I've given him a bottle with water. Dehydration was a concern of mine. He seems to be ok with only getting the 3 bottles but I may add in half a bottle water during the day or as needed. It can get hot and humid here in an instant!
We do five 6oz bottles per day. She doesn't always finish them all, so I'd say she eats on average about 26 oz/day.
The pedi suggested to us that she be in the 24-30oz range, but not less than 16 oz for now.
I get really overwhelmed thinking about how to taper it off and when.
With DS1 he was off formula by his first birthday and doing whole milk. Our pedi doesn't want them on it too long since he believes they should be eating only real food by then. Around 10 mos we got the ok to starting doing a mix of formula and whole milk slowing decreasing formula until it was just milk. It worked well so I might try it again with this guy.
Mine still takes 5 7oz bottles, eats puffs or pieces of banana or melon and 2 things of baby food. She's a tank but her weight is in 78%
I think you are just fine
Hahahaha thanks! I was just convinced I was cutting back way early this time. DS is also a tank. 28inches and 24lbs. Once he's really moving he will lean right out!

Don't worry about the taper, as they incorporate more food they taper themselves off. My first decided 2 weeks before his 1 st bday he was done. We never looked at a bottle again. I was lucky, easy peasy lol
