I think smoking with a child in the car should be a ticket- able offense, just like texting and driving. Unpopular with mh, not because he is a smoker but because he thinks it infringes on personal rights.
I am A-OK with buying lunch every day. I get a small allowance that I can spend on whatever I want without guilt (as part of my budget), and GDI if I want to spend it on delicious mac and cheese from the work cafe, it's worth it to me.

My UO is applicable only to my co-worker who is trying to shame me for it today, I will, and believe EVERYONE should, take every SECOND of vacation/PTO/flex time I can.
AND if I had 2 kids under 3 at home (like said coworker) I would probably be trying to scam MORE time, not humble brag how I never use my vacation or PTO. Yay you, super employee of the year, I work to live, not live to work.
maybe I'm just jealous she didn't have to wait for kids like me. I WILL NOT BE SHAMED for not loving to be at work.
rinny, work gives you a lunch stipend? WHAT? haha, I was an econ major, THERE ARE NO FREE LUNCHES. so disappointing.
Oops! Nope. Not free (though it is subsidized somewhat). I meant our personal budget. I would just rather spend my "me" money on food rather than mani/pedis etc.

So agree. We actually had to sit through a lecture from HR recently about how everyone should be taking all of their pto.

yeah, this girl thinks she's the best and is trying to race up the corporate ladder, doesn't realize she's just the biggest fish in this tiny bowl. I feel bad, like one day you wake up in middle management, but your kids are away at college and it hits you that you messed up. she's young, i'm just old and jaded.
I just thought of this feeding my dog some carrot chips.
I do not understand the concept that some people have of "no people food for dogs". Yes, there are certain things that dogs can't have (onions, chocolate, etc), and I don't feed them to my dogs. I also do not feed my dogs when they beg, BUT, if I'm chomping on a veggie (carrots), or theres some fat left over on a steak, you're damn right my dogs are getting some! Dogs need nutrients like people need nutrients, we're all mammals. Don't get me started on supermarket dog food either. They're better of hunting on their own than eating some of that shit.

Yeah, I'm hoarding a little because we can carry 80 hours over from year to year, and I would like to use it to extend my leave, but I fully PLAN to use it, I just want to be strategic about it.
Same here. I get 4 weeks a year and can carry up to 4 over, so this year you can be sure I'm being strategic about my days off. My maternity leave will be 12 weeks under FMLA, 6 of which will be paid by STD and 6 of which I'll use vacation for. If I play my cards right, I can still have 2 weeks left over next year for xmas and other random days if I'm stingy and carry over the full 4.

I'm so jealous I wish we got PTO or even just paid sick days. Sigh.
I disagree with YH about the personal rights. Personal rights only extend until they infringe on someone else's rights. I'd say a child's right to clean air is greater than a smoker's rights.
Not sure if this has been covered, I'm late to the UO.

UO: People who ask if it's ok to cut in line annoy me. If you're joining someone in your group who has been standing as a place holder, just get in with them. Asking me just makes me more annoyed that a long line is now going to take even longer. I'm too nice to tell someone they can start at the end of the line like the rest of us.

Our company strongly encourages everyone to take all their PTO but ever since we had two "staff reductions" it's funny how when certain people are out of the building, no one knows how to cope. Sorry folks, this is what happens when you remove people with semi-redundant skill sets. We can't cross-train everyone in everything.
My mat leave is going to be...interesting... this time.
When I go on leave I have to use up any of my accrued PTO first, so when I get back I have none. I hate that I just got a decent amount saved back up from leave with my son. (Our PTO does roll year to year thankfully).

lakegirl, pibblemom, if I'm eating a dog safe food, and my dogs are lying nicely on the floor, NOT BEGGING, they get a bite. First sign of begging and we're done. DH hates this, and wants things put in their bowls. meh. I might feel differently if they weren't so well behaved.

that reminds me of the 2nd or 3rd day we had our pup, H gave him some of whatever he was eating.. I said "don't do it!" He says, "This is going to make him beg from me for the rest of his life" not expecting it to be true.. It was. I try to let the dogs know the people eat dinner first, then the dogs eat (hierarchy, alpha, etc), my female gets it and will lay on the floor, with maybe a glance at us. Male, forget it, sometimes he's unbearable so in the crate he goes till we're done.

my UO, as I shop for Maternity jeans so I can participate in Jeans Fridays at work again, I DO NOT LIKE HOLES/TEARS/DISTRESSING in my jeans. They scream 'no responsibilities!' to me. flame me, I deserve it.

I'll +1 this.
+2. I'll wear jeans with some mild distressing but only on the weekend if we don't have plans to do anything that means dressing nicely. I don't see why I'm paying to have ripped jeans when I can do it for free....
