This is what I love about this board!!! snoris, I think I would be on your page if I didnt work outside the home! I was on the "no way CIO is for me" camp until everyone was not getting any sleep even on my chest! We tried it all. I think there are pros and cons to every "method". And wiggle room too!! One thing is for sure: always do what you feel is best for your family, no matter what others tell tell you to do or think you should do!!! Make your own informed decision!

snoris, you might check out the blog called Nurshable. I came across it with DD and the writer is very much about AP and has coined the term WIO as in Wait It Out method of sleeping for infants. Basically, taking their cues and waiting until they are ready to sleep independently. It's definitely my approach with both kids and I am glad I came across it when DD was small as it gave me peace about not training even though she was so tough to get to sleep.
As much as I want my baby to fall asleep on her own in the crib and sleep independence and all - there is nothing like the sight of a milk drunk, passed out baby on your shoulder to melt your heart. I just can sit here and stare at her forever thinking about how much I love her. I took a picture so that I can remember this feeling when she is 16 and driving me crazy.

My sister used the WIO method with all three of her kids! At least I'm pretty sure that's what she did. It sounds very familiar. All her kids now sleep through the night!
I LOVE having lo sleeping on me. BUT, then I miss out on hours of free time I could have with ds1. It's a hard thing to juggle. I've been doing two cradle naps and 1-2 cuddling naps to compromise. I think it works so far. But let me tell you nothing breaks my heart like telling my toddler I can't play with him because the baby is sleeping on me. I can handle a baby crying better than I handle that disappointed look.
On another note my parents are coming over for dinner and bringing my crib mattress back so I'm going to try naps in his own room next week. It is way comfier than the cradle mattress.
When/how do people plan on stopping swaddling? We swaddle DS for nighttime and sometimes for naps, he won't sleep flat without it (unswaddled naps are in ktan or rnp)

You will be able to tell when your baby no longer wants to be swaddled. Typically I believe it's around 3ish months? With DD1, we went into a sleep sack. I gave her a lovey that she would play with the fabric in her hands while falling asleep, something she still does to this day. We are currently using the swaddle up with LO and plan on repeating what we did with DD1. I know some people really like going into the Merlin Sleep Suit after swaddling.

We stopped last week (3 mos) and moved in to a Merlin sleepsack. So far so good!

Every night for the last three nights I've at his 4:30isj wake up he's managed to get both arms out. It doesn't seem to wake him up and I leave him arms out after that feeding and he goes back to sleep.
I'm not sure if I should just keep on doing what I've been doing it try swaddling arms out right from the beginning... He doesn't roll yet...
ellesea I can relate. I hate having to tell DS I can't do something with him because DD is sleeping on me. It breaks my heart.
Yup, +1!!! Especially because I also have a little mom guilt sending him to daycare M-F. So on weekends, I really try to give him lots of play time, and it's also when we give our weekly bottle so that I am freed up a little more.

We're using the swaddle up too and I can't believe how much he likes it. We have a Merlin suit but that thing is like a snow suit so we wont be using it anytime soon.
Those that have the Merlin suit-do you have the fleece or cotton one? I definitely don't want the fleece but I'm worried the cotton one will still be too hot here.
Cotton and I live in Houston (100 degrees) and she's done fine. It's pretty breathable actually! She hasn't ever been too hot in it.

snoris, that's pretty nice though! It will be helpful once your daycare is open and running! But yeah....the baby snuggles. I stole some snuggles in the MOTN last night and some more just now.

Definitely! I thought transitioning him to his room was going to be a big deal and it would take effort. Don't know why. This kid will sleep anywhere. He is probably ready for nights too but we have no monitor and I still have a few heebie jeebies about the safety of the floor bed. Again, don't know why bc he sleeps on our floor bed every night and has never had a problem. Anyway, we are getting lots of work done today with him safely tucked away. :-D

We won't be transitioning out of our room for a while yet. He'll be sharing with DS1, so I need to wait A) until DS2 sleeps better and B) until I trust DS1 not to "help" the baby too much.
I was starting to work on night sleep in his pack and play instead of on me (naps are generally in the R&P or cradle easily), but now all bets are off until his sunburn heals.

We got lucky this time and DS2 never liked the swaddle. DS1 loved it though. Once he could roll, I transitioned him first to one arm out, then both, then sleep sack.

Same. DS has been sleeping in the PNP for the past week instead of on me but only because I got super sick Sunday night with awful body aches and shivers. I didn't trust myself with him so I just put him down and passed out. He was fine. Go figure. He still spends the last morning stretch with me because he likes to cluster feed so we side lay nurse till he wakes up. Or until DD starts yelling for me to come get her. Usually the latter.
Good to know there's a reason for it. I was hoping to see some daytime progress this weekend since we are DS/toddler free. It's hard to spend this much time putting DD to sleep during the week by myself with him around.
I'm not sure how old your lo is now, but my pedi said the following for me (our LO is 9 weeks old). Attempt drowsy to sleep for all naps. Allow to cry for 5-10min. If after that time he is not calm and falling asleep, then do whatever you need to do to get a nap in, but still try to make it happen in the crib or at least provide motionless sleep once he is asleep (swing and then stop the swing, or stroller but stop moving stroller once asleep). She said do this until he is 3-4mo old, but most likely my 3-4, maybe 5mo, drowsy to sleep will work for naps too. As she put it, the 5min of tears right now are "money in the bank" for later!
i dont' like to hear my baby crying for 5min, but having trained one baby to sleep, it's easier this time and sometimes he cries for FAR longer when we are in the car and he's fine after!
This is good to know and I think I'll start trying this. I can't hold this baby every second of the day so maybe this will help. Also daycare isn't going to hold him 24/7 and id like for him to kind of put himself to sleep while there.
I think my kid is broken. She's 15 weeks and used to wake me up once or twice a night. The last two nights she's woken me up every 2 hrs! She's also fighting all naps. I'm exhausted. What is this?! Is it the 4 mo sleep regression or should I be worried about something else? How do I handle it?

This sounds like the 4 month sleep regression. They say to keep things the same and it should pass in a week or two. It hit DS hard though and the only way we ended it was sleep training a week before he turned 5 months.

DS's sleep has gone to shit too. He had been consistently doing a 4-5hr stretch starting around 7pm but now I'm lucky to get 2 h of consecutive sleep. He's not even 3 mo so it can't be the 4 mo sleep regression. I was thinking it might be related to travel/jet lag but it seems to be getting worse not better.
westiemom, sounds like the sleep regression and honestly, the only way it ended for DS1 was to let him CIO! The more attention we paid to it the worst it got. One night we let him go for 20min and he was back to his normal self.
I'm excited DS2 slept from about 7:45-2:30am!!!! And then was up at 4:50 again. I'm trying to figure out...do I maybe try to feed him LESS at 2am? and more at the 5am wake up?
Oh we're back to only 30 minute crib naps. The rest will only happen in the K'tan. Oh and while standing. She wakes if I sit so I can't even get down to play with DS. This is the perfect day for this to happen while I have a horrible cold and I'm alone with both kids. I don't think I'm going to make it til 4 when DH gets home. /whine over
Oh man...these are the days I get on the phone and text any and all friends to see if anyone wants to come over and help/play. If all else fails....care.com for same day help. I can't deal with two when sick!

Oh man that's the worst! Days like that I let my toddler watch way more tv than normal. Also playing outside in the fenced in yard. Toddler is occupied running around picking up sticks and I don't have to entertain lol
