AW/Vents/ Encounters this week: Nothing too big this week. We did go to the in laws to visit Saturday and they always do a prayer before dinner. I always feel super awkward just staring at the wall, especially when it's just the four of us.
QOTW: Is religion a big part of your community/area you live? Right now DH and I rent a townhouse and I don't see anyone leave regularly on Sunday morning and none of our neighbors talk about church, so it doesn't seem to be a big deal in our immediate area. We are planning on buying a house closer to where DH works and it makes me wonder if this will change at all.
AW/Vents/Encounters: We got DD in at the nont-religious school of our first choice. There was a chance of them having too much applications and then kids with a sibling already there would go first and the other places would be filled by a random draw. I don't know if that happened, but we're in. Our second choice was a school with a religious background, which we believe would not be that prominent, but still, we're happy.
QOTW: I am not aware of people going to church, but I do hear the bells on Sunday morning. The area where we live has a substantial muslim population and a mosque as well. I don't ever hear their calls for prayer, though.
AW/Vents/Encounters this week: Nothing this week, but something from a while back comes to mind. On a flight from LA to London I was seated next to an older man who was very religious. He questioned me about my faith and asked if I went to church. When I said no he told me that "Jesus loves you anyway". Alrighty, then *major eyeroll*. He then proceeded to talk to EVERYBODY on the plane about their religious views.
QOTW: No, not really.
I didn't really know where to intro, there seems to be an old intro thread but I don't know if anybody would read it? I'd be happy to post an intro wherever you find it appropriate!
AW/Vents/ Encounters this week: No particular encounters, but I'm surprised (not actually) at how many Christians I'm friends with are all "I carry a concealed weapon" blah blah blah on fb since the Orlando shooting. Pretty quick to be willing to kill, that's totes what Jesus would do. Also (nonreligious rant)- I *SERIOUSLY* doubt that even half the gun owners I know could go straight into rational thought in that kind of scenario. I've played a team sport with some of them- if they get confused/distracted during a game that they train for, forHOURS each week, how the frack are they actually going to keep their cool during a mass shooting, and actually shoot the right guy? Puh-lease.
QOTW: Is religion a big part of your community/area you live? Yep. I mean, people don't go out of their way to talk about it, but there's a silent assumption that everyone here is Christian. For the most part we just koko.

The only encounters this week has been on social media with the prayers hashtag & a few of the often vocal religious folks that are all about you can't take my guns from me blah blah blah I've kind of been just ignoring it. I don't do social media debates or fights. No time for that.
I do not believe that religion is a big part of our community. There's a few different small churches around so I assume various faiths. I've only ever recently heard anything religious/church related either last week or the week before at soccer. Some people behind us just casually mentioned 'oh I'll see you/meet you at church on Sunday.' Before then I don't think I ever heard anything.
And it really got to me this time, so I ended up responding that the examples given support the secular, since the terrorists are religious extremists and McVeigh professed belief in a god in a Time Magazine interview. I feel like I need to point out all the mass murderers that went to church on the regular as well as some Jesus quotes related to nonviolence. Ffs, if you're going to claim it's the godless doing this, you better know you're bible. Pretty sure Jesus wouldn't have been all "turn the other cheek, unless you're carrying."
AW/Vents/ Encounters this week: None for me personally but the whole Orlando thing.
QOTW: Is religion a big part of your community/area you live? I know two of my neighbors. One is a pastor at a church that has multiple. The other I have no clue. I don't pay enough attention and usually not up and about when they would leave for church if they did go.
