He was born at 2:23 this morning and is doing great! He arrived on day 41+1 and weighs 8lbs 5 oz. big brother is in love and soooo sweet with him. Will update more later!
ETA birth story.
I woke up with Contractions at 4:30am that were about 20 mins apart but very consistent. They were down to 10, 8, 7, then 6 minutes apart before 10am. I texted DH at work telling him that at that rate he should come home. He left work and came home. Then, the contractions Backed off around noon and became inconsistent and jumped
From 5-6 to 8-12 mins apart so we never went to the hospital. So we (DH, DS whom I kept home from school as the contractions had been consistent for a few hours before it was time for him to leave, and my mom) ate lunch, went on two short walks around the neighborhood, and hung out. I started to give up on it happening so DS and DH went on a bike ride. While they were gone, my mom and I watched an episode of Downton Abbey and relaxed until everything started again and they quickly got down to 6-7 mins so I texted DH to come back when they could. From 2:30-3:30 pm they were down to 5 mins and we headed to the hospital.
At 4 pm I checked in and got hooked up to the monitor around 5 when contractions were 4 mins apart and I was dilated to a 4. I had been a 3 at my final appointment the week before.
The OB broke my water at 5:30 and they finally got the iv in around 6. The contractions were getting much stronger and only 1-2 minutes apart so I got the epidural around 7 and was quickly at 6 cm. I was then able to relax a little and by 8:45 was at 9cm.
My mom brought DS to say good night around 9:30 and I was feeling really good. Right after they left I started pushing and pushed from 10-midnight. The baby was still at a 0 station but I was fully effaced, dilated, and ready to go. They thought pushing would help move the baby down, but he was stuck on my pelvic bone. They shut off the epidural and I was dying, exhausted, and frustrated from pushing for 2 hours with no progress.
I asked for the epidural to be turned back on and a break to rest and get some energy. They were great and listened well and I was able to rest for about an hour and a half. They came back at 45, 30, and 15 minutes to see if I was ready. At 1:45 am, they all came in and it was go time.
I started pushing around 2 and after 5 or so contractions of pushing the baby was still stuck on my pelvic bone. She said there should be room still but baby was probably coming from a bad angle so she used the vacuum to help guide him under the bone where there was more room. I pushed about 9 times with the vacuum and DS2 was born at 2:23 am after nearly 22 hours of labor.
He was very healthy and we were able to avoid a c section and induction so I was relieved the vacuum worked and that I actually went into labor on my own. They gave me oxygen around 9pm because baby's heart rate was dropping with every contraction and my contractions were 1-2 minutes apart the entire time. He had some brusing/swelling where his head was stuck for a while, but it's all clearing up very nicely and quickly and he's doing great!!
