Here is my birth story finally….only 9 days late
tl:dr – Labor started Friday at work. Picked up after my walk home and we got to the hospital shortly after 10 PM and water broke right after arriving. Admitted at 3cm, epidural at 1:30am and delivery at 6:19am. to a healthy baby girl.
Thursday night (6/16) was our anniversary and we went to a fancy dinner. Felt terrible all night and did not sleep well at all. I assumed it was just the food because it was rich and I hadn’t been eating that much so I thought I just made myself sick.
Went to work Friday (6/17) and felt worse and had some cramping but not definitive contractions. Was going to go home from work but then started feeling better around lunch. My husband was nagging me to call the doc so they would see me before the weekend but I was there the day before and had nothing to really tell them other than I think labor is coming this weekend. I did eventually call but the office was closed for the day. Walked home from work which is my usual and once I got home I panicked and was like we need to put the laundry in and run to the grocery store. MH is like sit down and tell me if you’re in labor and I kept saying I don’t know. The pain got worse quickly though and started feeling like actual contractions. I told MH to call his brother to come stay with DD (he’s 90 min away) but he had gone to the shore house in south NJ so he was actually 2 hours away. That caused me to yell at my husband because he didn’t tell him sooner before he went to the shore. Anyway, we planned to take DD1 to the hospital and have him meet us there. I called the doctor though and since my contractions still weren’t consistent intervals she said to wait it out at home so that worked out. He got to our house around 9:45PM and my husband had just gotten DD1 to sleep 10 minutes before thank goodness. We get to the hospital shortly after 10 PM. They put me in triage right away and about 2 minutes later my water broke. It was just like the movies…big gush all over the floor. Then I went to the bathroom and when I got up the automatic flushers went off. The lady yelled at me for flushing and I’m like I didn’t have a choice it’s automatic…she felt bad. Anyway she gets the PA and nurse they confirm my water did break and admitted me at 3cm. They called my doc and she said I needed to start Pitocin or walk the halls for an hour. I chose walk. Things picked up a lot and my contractions were lasting for a super long time. They were a minute and a half long which everyone commented was really long. After an hour of walking I got checked and was a 5 so I asked for the epidural. Got that within the hour. It didn’t hurt at all and I felt amazing right away. I was able to rest through the night which was good because I was exhausted and started to push around 5:45 AM. I’m pretty sure my doc had just woken up as she looked like she had sleepy face (she was not my regular doc but the on call from our practice). Pushed for under an hour but longer than I thought and it hurt a lot (ring of fire and all).
DD2 was born on 6/18 at 6:19 AM 6lbs 10oz and perfectly healthy.
I had second degree tears and a hell of a time with healing but finally able to move around for the most part as of yesterday.
