Anyone's LO's button not dried out after falling off? We were just at the peds two days ago and she said it was ok but dropped some medicine in it. Well it's still oozing. It doesn't smell.
DD2 had that. I wasn't sure if I should be concerned so I called the pedi. It's normal. As long as it's not yellowish, or smell really bad, or looked inflammed, just wipe it with a warm damp cloth.
My second daughters wasn't healing and still weeping, with some blood, and the pediatrician cauterized it in the office. It wasn't painful for her at all, just a dab of silver nitrate.

We had to do this as well because her stump fell off after only five days. It took a few days after that to really dry up.
We had this with DS and then it still had residue on it for what seemed like months, so I was surprised that DD's was perfectly clean and dry after it fell off. I think it's okay and normal, but definitely ask your pediatrician!
With DD1 hers had some not yellow but like white and a little oozy. I took a picture and sent it to the nurse. She said it looked fine and it did dry up in a couple days after. DD2's is kind of like that too but hers has had a tiny bit of blood so I think I will probably ask again.

Belly buttons do all sorts of nasty different things, but the only thing that is concerning is if there is redness that spreads to the skin around the belly button. Otherwise it tends to dry up on its on in time. The silver nitrate cauterization can help speed up the process. We did it for DS because it was still oozing a lot 4 days after the stump fell off. He has an umbilical hernia too, which means the stump got really irritated from the diaper and clothes and probably contributed to the issues.
Ok I hope you all don't mind the pic but DS2's stump fell off over night and I don't know if this looks normal. From what everyone said above it sounds normal. I just don't remember it looking like this with DS1.
