Question About Monitors (for second+ time moms)

My mind has been a pain in the ass lately and I cannot stop thinking about BS while I lay in bed every night.  Anyways, one of the things I was thinking about last night was monitors. We still use one with DS (2 yo) and I was wondering what the hell happens when we have two kids in two different rooms. Two monitors? Or do we stop using one with DS? At this point we only use it out of habit. We can hear him if he cries/ screams from pretty much anywhere in the house. I think I just answered my own question... but still curious as to what people may do with two young kiddos. 

As you can tell, I am procrastinating doing any work at home.

Mine has the option of using a second camera on the same monitor so I'll probably do that even though I can usually hear DS anywhere in the house. However it is nice to have if I'm on the deck, listening to music on the far end of the house, and for the grandparents who don't hear as well. Plus I like to be a creepy creeper! Some of his sleep positions crack me up.

Also I've seen some sweet moments between DS and the dog through the crib bars so priceless!

We only have an audio monitor and only use it when we are in the basement and he is sleeping. I have no idea what we'll do, but I think I want a video monitor this time around, which would mean we'll have two. I'm also nervous about having cords around when we move DS to his big boy room.

Ours has a second camera option and will flip back and forth between the two cameras approx. every 10 seconds or we can push a button and flip it.

I have to check and see if ours has a second camera option. rinny, I am also nervous about wires when we move DS to his bog boy room. That's one of the reasons I was considering giving up the monitor when baby comes. But like you, lakegirl, I like to be a creep and I get peace of mind having the monitor with me.

Ours is a motorola and has a 2nd camera option. I guess we'll just end up getting a 2nd since we still like to use ours for DD (2yo).

Since it's like 2+ yrs old already, I should probably look into that sooner rather than later. It'll be just my luck that they don't sell that model anymore lol.

We plan to get a video monitor with two camera, so each baby has a camera, & we aren't sure where their cribs will be positioned anyway. Eventually they will be in their own rooms anyway. That's why I popped in on the conversation. It's still early but if anyone has any brand recommendations I'd love to hear.

Well, since my DD is almost 4, we probably don't need the video monitor in her room anymore. We'll likely not use a monitor for her since she's really close to us anyway, and just move our Motorola over to the nursery with the new baby. Ours is (obviously) 4 years old so with our luck it'll crap out right before the baby comes.

peaseblossom55 I have the Infant Optics DXR-5. It's not as fancy as some of the Motorola ones but I was super self conscious about registering for super expensive things and mh didn't want a video monitor so this was a compromise. It was around $100. It doesn't have the fancy bells and whistles but it gets the job done and I've been very happy with it.

We stopped using a monitor when we moved back to NM when DS was a little less than 1. My brother and his wife have 3 under 2 and just transferred the one in their DD's room to the babies' room instead of having two.

Wait, I'm confused carrots. You've had to replace it twice in 12 months and you still recommend it?

We also have the infant optics and recommend it, we've used for over 2 years. The only issue I've had is that it stopped charging. But I bought a new charger on Amazon for $7 problem solved. I anticipate getting another camera to use for #2.

ETA: we have the dxr-5.

Haha no! We have had two other monitors that were different brands. Our first Summer Infant died. They replaced it since it was still under warranty but during the waiting period, I got impatient and bought the Infant Optics one. The replacement Summer Infant was a different model than the original and I'm not crazy about that one either.

We didn't have a video monitor for DD and we stopped using our audio monitor around 18mo because I have crazy mom ears and can hear her crying without it. When I babysit they have a video monitor though and I really like it, so we might switch to a video monitor with this baby. We will probably get one with two cameras because once DD is in a big girl bed I'm thinking I'll want to monitor what she's doing in her room more than I need to now.

We have the Angel Soft monitor bc I'm a nervous nelly and wanted it for sids monitoring. We have since removed the motion sensor part and now only use it as a video monitor. It gets the job done, but as far as a video monitor its not great, but again, gave me piece of mind then and let's me keep an eye on her now during naps and before either I or DH goes to sleep (we cosleep so obviously once we go in there, no need for a monitor). Not quite sure what we will do this time around.
