I've posted on here occasionally researching and asking questions, but we have finally picked an agency and are about to start our home study. We meet with our social worker on Tues! I'm excited, but the total fees make me physically nauseous. I've already got the ball rolling with done fundraisers (designing t-shirts, making crafts to sell, organizing a yard sale, etc.) I'm open to other suggestions.
Anyway, hello! I hope I'll be posting over here now frequently now.
BFP# 1 7/7/12 Beautiful DD born still at 36 weeks 5 days on 3/2/13 BFP #2 8/7/14 Rainbow DS born 4/2/15 Started adoption process July 2016 BF#3 8/29/16 DD2 born 4/21/17
It doesn't help initially, but we were able to access the tax credit before we were matched. You need to have spent the amount in qualifying adoption related expenses, you don't have to have been matched or finalized the adoption. We claimed the credit in Feb when we did our taxes and used the credit to pay for the next installment of our expenses.
Congrats! It's so exciting once you start getting things done. :-)
I didn't do any fundraising but a friend had done a garage sale, a FB auction (she had things donated and then did a silent FB auction and people paid via pay pal) and she also just set up a go fund me.
Are you making a FB page? One thing that my friend did that I thought was a neat way to get her page out there was that she posted a funny picture of her and her DH (on the bottom it had text encouraging people to like their page) and they had a caption contest with a 20$ Target gift card as the prize for the best caption. Tons of people posted captions and they got tons more likes because it showed up on so many FB walls.
