pearlvirus having lost a dog within the last few years to an aggressive cancer that appeared out of nowhere, I can sympathize with your H. I think you need to really talk to him to get on the same page and even if you can't get there, support him. Try to put yourself in his shoes. I'm guessing his dog came with the marriage. I would suggest you try to think if it as an ailing human family member. What would you do in his place? Have you guys discuss end of life choices? Try to think of it this way. I know it can be difficult. Hugs and I hope your H finds peace.
Might I note I would put a trigger on your OP because you can absolutely feel what you want to feel, but it may catch some people off guard.

Finished H's birthday cake! I asked DS1 what kind of cake we should make and he said "Dory and trucks and the beach" ok buddy hahahaha. He's only 2.5 but loves celebrating people's birthdays. He's been singing Happy Birthday to my H all week.

Thank you whatsit! He helped with the frosting but mostly taste tested it haha. He put the shells on the top but the Dory fish are a surprise! After the shells I said it was all done and we hid the cake.
I'm hoping to make a truck cake like this for his 3rd bday in October!

We spent the night with friends. BBQ, bonfire, just hanging out. DD2 has been pretty good about this whole long weekend thing. Tomorrow is a stay home day, so we'll see what that brings. Maybe she'll be cool because it's a chance to relax or maybe she'll lose it because she can't be idle. Who knows.
I'm counting down to the 16th. The kids and I are flying to Colorado for a week. DS1 will be out there for scout camp. I love that he goes there bc it's a great excuse for me to visit my mom and I get to visit him at camp. By midweek he is usually extremely homesick so it helps that I can visit him and give him a big hug and kiss. Even though he is 14, he still loves giving me hugs and kisses. I hope he never gets to the point he doesn't need those from me.
sunfrogger88 I'll just delete. Losing a pet (or a person really) suddenly and by surprise is so much different then losing them slowly and painfully over years. I'm not sure I would feel differently if this was a person. I'm thinking of my grandmother and how ready she was to be done after a long battle. This is only going to end one way and at this point fighting it is only prolonging her suffering. You're right that she came with him but I have been supportive, we've been grieving and assuming her time is up any day for 3 years. The stress of that is incredible, he just can't let go.

pearlvirus I was in your shoes last year. My Hs dog lived to 14 and had a lot of issues including going blind at 4. I loved him but I was ready for him to move on. He was uncomfortable and really made our lives hard (constantly ruining things, peeing in the house, etc). It's a hard emotion you are feeling but I totally understand.
The Board is so dead. You ladies must be having a fun 4th of July.
It is suppose to rain/younger shower for several days here. I am not great at entertaining my 4 year old when the weather is bad. I'm letting her watch some cartoons so I can have some baby snuggle time.
We had a sleepover at our friends' house Fri/Sat. Their DD is one month younger than DS1 and their DS is two months younger than DS2, so it's lots of fun when we get together! Today we're just relaxing. Both boys are napping now, DH is napping, I'm enjoying a brewskie outside. We'll probably head to the park when everyone gets up and then fireworks tonight.
