Hey all. So my LO hasn't gained (or very little) between month four and five. He has been sick but has continued to nurse well, or so I thought. Called lactation nurse who said he's fine because he has enough diaper output but she said to pump after every feeding for a week so I don't lose my supply. She seemed to need to get off the phone so I thanked her and hung up. Now, I'm not sure if I was supposed to give him the extra milk I pump or save it like I usually do after pumping. What would you do? Or should I call back?
I would go do a weight check on an accurate scale if you are estimating from a home scale to be sure you know where you stand. weight gain slows naturally after about 4 mos of age, so check kellymom and plot it out on a bfed baby chart.
Then I would nag baby to eat a bit more often and a bit longer. If weight gain really is stalled (zero or close for a whole month) I would nurse, pump and offer what you pump a bit to get back on track and work in personn with an LC to see what is going on.
Thanks. I can go into Kaiser tomorrow and do a weight check. I've been giving him the extra so far. Hopefully he'll get back on track soon. I'll check out Kelly mom too.
