Not sure what is going on with my body

Hi all,
I am not sure what is going on with my body.  I lost my son at 37 weeks 10 weeks ago.  I had very light bleeding 8 weeks out but I am not sure if it was my period.  I have since had some cervical mucus that is stretchy but not clear.  It came for a few days, along with cramping, and swollen breasts, and then stopped.  I used ovulation tests each day, and have not seen a surge.  Now, I have a little discharge again, and my breasts hurt.  Still no surge, and I am not pregnant either.  What could be going on?  My hormones feel out of balance.  Did this happen to anyone else? Can I have cervical mucus without ovulation? When will things get regular? Are there tests that can be done?

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Your hormones may very well be out of balance still. Have you had any blood work done recently? For me, sore breasts always means that my progesterone is high.

It's possible that your body is gearing up and trying to ovulate, and that's where the stretchy CM is coming from. It's also possible that you did ovulate but didn't detect the surge, and that's why your breasts are sore (higher progesterone after O).

I know it can be so difficult to figure out what's going on after a loss, but your body is probably still just trying to get back on track. With my last loss, I was only 7 weeks pregnant, and it still took over two months for my period to return. It really can vary person to person, but I would imagine that with a later loss, it could take a long time for your body to figure itself out.

First can I say (HUGS) and I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your son.
Second welcome, I'm sorry you find yourself here, but it's a wonderful place to be.
Third It's possible you tried to O, yes you can have anovulatory cycles. Also it can take a long time after a pregnancy for your body to get back on track with cycle wise. Your hormones may also be out of balance for a while. Did they track your betas back down? Have you had any monitoring appointments post loss? I'm not really sure what the protocol is for late term losses since all of mine have been early. However if you are worried you can always call and talk to your doctor or a nurse.
Be kind to yourself and allow your body to heal.

When I lost Kenley @ 38+4, it took a while to get my cycle back in order. Even my second and third cycle after my loss were really weird and super heavy. I had a c section, I know vaginal and c section births are different but I bled for quite some time.

Do you have any more OPKS? If not and you're super concerned about it, you can buy Cheapies on Amazon or you could start temping.

Hi elephantmomma, again, sorry for the loss of your son. I lost my daughter at 37 weeks. It can take a few cycles to get regular after birth. Sounds like you tried to O but it might not have happened. I didn't O either for a little while after my angel DD. Just keep testing, and if after a few cycles it is still whacky you can talk to your OB.

Thanks everyone. Wed, we are meeting with MFM to go over autopsy results, so I may ask him some questions about my cycle/hormonal imbalances? Are there tests that I can/should ask him to do regarding my hormone levels etc?

If I were you, I would ask him to test your betas and make sure they're at zero. If you voice your concern to the MFM he will suggest testing he wants to have you do in order to see where you're at in your cycle, if any. Good luck with the appt. I remember how emotionally charged my appt was with my MFM to discuss Kenley's autopsy report.

It was incredibly hard. So many ((hugs)) for that appointment. I hope you post on LTL/here about the appt. More ((hugs)) momma.
