My gladiola bloomed!!
My cucumbers, tomatoes, peas and yellow beans are growing so well! My zucchini plant is growing but I don't have a single zucchini growing. Lots of flowers that just die! My grandma helper bought hers and mine at the same time and she's gotten 12 huge (like baseball bat size) out of hers already! Get it together my zucchini plant!!!
For the first time ever last week I found out what happens when Oak trees drop their seedlings. OMG THEY HAVE TAKEN OVER! I had the lawn guy edge them and then sprayed weed killer but since they are not really weeds, I am waiting to see how that turns out lol.
We have come a long way on our fire pit area..at least I think so! MH got the sprinkler and sink line re-routed and we are now working on leveling the area. We bought a ton of red lava rocks and stones. We also bought the ring, it's a round, metal, circle with the American Flag cut out of it. I still have no idea what seating we are going to do though
Here is what the area looked like last night when I was done:

I bought 6 balloon flower plants last week but it's been too hot to dig holes for them yet. Same with a medium-sized gardenia I got. The gardenia and 3 of the balloon flowers will go by the mailbox.
My hydrangeas are wilting with the intense heat but my roses are growing. I think the deer are leaving the ones in front alone long enough for them to actually leaf out.
I worry I have some kind of tree saplings in our front yard. How do I kill them without killing the grass?

I got 1 snow pea off my plants last night! It's the only thing that's grown produced so far. My pumpkins and other squash are doing great! no flowers yet though.
My cherry tomatoes are doing great! My black eyes Susans and echinacea are happy campers. This was my project last weekend:
My hydrangea is not a happy camper. I think it's getting sunburn?! I'm worried the afternoon sun is too much and that I may have to move it. Any thoughts?
nikolie93 I feel your pain, except my nemesis is my neighbor's maple! There are maples everywhere in my yard!!! Some of the bigger ones I couldn't even begin to get to until I cleared out the bag garden a few weeks ago. they are way too big to rip up. I have no idea what to do about them. LMK if weed killer work??

nikolie93 the chippers take acorns all over our yard so we get oak and hickory trees popping up everywhere!!!! You must pull them before they get too big and the roots get too deep!!!
ironbaby I have some balloon flowers blooming right now.
birch113 looks great!! My BESs are just starting to bloom. I HAVE to divide them this fall! They have gone bananas!!
My hydrangea hasn't bloomed for the past two years. it's growing and the leaves look good. Just no blooms.
4furrypaws, I tried to pull them there are just too many and it's hard to get them out! The guy said that since they are so young that the weed killer may help. We shall see!

birch113 , I love what you did to that little area! I will let you know if the weed killer works. I have my fingers crossed.
Oh, and here is the fire pit area now. We are just waiting for the ring to come in and then he will build something to raise it up a bit. Then it's seating time. I think since we have spent so much and we have so many other projects to do, we may just go with some benches right now. I really want at least one swinging one at some point!
This is before, after it was cleared, and almost finished.

You need this!! My BFF told me about it. I have the one by Ames, but it's the same. I'm able to get the little maples out with it, roots and all. Life changing!!
Now the maples with trunks 1 inch in diameter and bigger, I have no idea what to do about them.
birch113, oohhh thank you! I am so going to check that out
My oak seedling thingies still look the same since the lawn guy edged them. I am still waiting to see if they pop back up after the weed killer was put on. My fingers are still crossed!

You guys. I just mulched, planted, made a stone pathway, and bordered one of my beds with stone. All today. I'm exhausted. But it looks freaking amazing. I'm mobile right now, but I promise I'll be back either later tonight or tomorrow morning to post pictures. I can't even walk to my computer.

Whew. 33 bags of mulch. Three trips to home depot. Three silver flaming pieris planted. Four Berberis Concorde dug up. One trip to the garden supply for my gnome (Pierre). I'm EXHAUSTED today. But my yard looks beautiful! I just want to add some flowers eventually.
Has anyone transplanted a Rose of Sharon? There's one in my shade garden. I'm not sure why anyone would have planted it there! I want to move it into the sun for my future butterfly garden, but I'm unsure of what an undertaking it may be.
