Explaining plan to family

How do you help explain reunification or an adoption plan to bio family to your own family?

MIL is having issues accepting our kid's plan. We are ok with it and know it is what's best for him regardless of our adoption desires.

How do we help her understand that we support the plan his caseworkers have suggested?

I'm not sure what there is to explain, honestly. It's not as though you have any say in the matter, and I imagine that the plan for a foster child would be private to that child and you guys, anyways. So how your MIL would be able to accurately weigh in doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Rogue, I think this must be difficult for others to understand. I am sure your MIL understands that she does not have a say in the matter, however that does not stop her from having opinions. I can also understand why someone might be emotionally invested in your foster kids and not understand all the information that comes with creating a plan. I don't know that I can offer much advice other than explaining that there are probably a variety of factors that she will never be privy to in making this decision, and that it is important to trust those on the child's team to make the best possible decision for the child. Sometimes it helps me to remember that as an adoptive parent I had to undergo many months of training, which those around me did not, so I can't expect them to have the same understanding of the complexities involved. GL. I can only imagine how many emotions everyone must be feeling, and the fact that your MIL is so invested I think speaks volumes for how many people must love your little one.
