AW Appointments/Ultrasounds:
MFM last week went great. Cervix looked great and both babies did too.

Symptoms:
heartburn. But I'll take that over the nausea. Out of breath a lot.

Questions/comments/concerns:
Worried about having to go on bed rest with a young toddler running around!

QOTW: Do you want more kids? We had always wanted 3. Then decided if I got pregnant this time around, it would be it... we wouldn't go through IVF again. Then we found out it was 2, so our original wish for 3 was granted. If I have a c-section I'm thinking of having my tubes tied. In any event, we won't be having any more after these 2 arrive!

I will add my response to this weeks QOTW:  Most excited about our family being COMPLETELY complete.  I don't want to wish my LO's infancy away, but I can't wait to see all 3 of them playing together as they will be so close in age!  I'm most anxious about going back to work.  We don't have a choice in the matter.  I have to work.  We will have help with my mom and MIL, thankfully they are both young grandmothers.  But it will be a lot on them.  I keep reminding myself that daycare is temporary.

Weeks/Fruit: 26+3/Cabbage

Symptoms: Fatigue, stretching, indigestion

AW/Appointments/Ultrasounds: Coming up on Wednesday! Always anxious to see my cervical length. Only two more trips the MFM after Wednesday. Yikes!

Questions/Comments/Concerns: Working out is getting hard! Yesterday and today were struggles. Looks like next month I will reduce my schedule. I'm torn on going to 4 or 3 days per week. I guess I will play out the rest of the month and see. The appointment could give me an idea as well.

QOTW: What do you think will be your favorite part of having twins? I can't wait to see what their personalities will be like. I can't wait to have those certain moments of coordinating outfits.
Most challenging? I know how hard it is to get DD out the door sometimes so that concerns me. Also trying to coordinate activities when they all get older.

Weeks/Fruit: 28 weeks 3 days

Symptoms: as always acid reflux. Two nights ago I developed back pain in my shoulder area left side. Don't know if related or just pulled muscle but as if sleeping wasn't hard enough... It kills to be on either side. In so tired.

AW/Appointments/Ultrasounds: go in tomorrow morning.

Questions/Comments/Concerns: I feel huge. I had to start wearing a support belt for my 3 mile walks. I seriously can't imagine what it will feel like in another 10 weeks. But it's worth it.

QOTW: What do you think will be your favorite part of having twins? Just finally bring a mom. I'm so excited after trying so long to be having not only one but two!
Most challenging? Going back to work. I have no choice as I'm the major bread winner of the family but it will be so hard especially when I have to travel.

Weeks/Fruit: 30 weeks

Sexes/Twin Type: di/di b/g

Symptoms: insomnia, rib pain, nausea/vomiting (thankfully only first thing in the morning), acid reflux, major shortness of breath...it's getting fun but glad they're still inside, of course!

AW/Appointments/Ultrasounds: I had an OB appt and growth scan earlier this week. After about 4-5 weeks of concern about growth, this week's growth scan was terrific! Both babies are measuring on-target and now estimated to be around 1.5 kg (just over 3 pounds). I also had my last cervical length check by ultrasound. My cervix is shortening but length is still reasonable. It is now about 2cm open on the top. Next appointment and growth scan in 2 weeks.

Questions/Comments/Concerns: Nothing really...other than the obvious...I am so huge and becoming quite physically limited. At just over 5'2" all 3 of us are feeling pretty squished at this point!

QOTW: What do you think will be your favorite part of having twins? I think it will be super cool to watch them interact with each other as they grow an awareness of the world. I am pretty scared of the everyday craziness of 3u2 but I hope having 3 kids so close in age will be a fun experience for them growing up together. Also, assuming everything works out with this pregnancy, I will feel so incredibly blessed to have 3 living children given my difficult IF/loss history and that not so long ago, I was seriously looking into surrogacy to build my family after hitting the infertility/miscarriage/late loss trifecta.

Weeks/Fruit: Week 13, Peach

Sexes/Twin Type: Fraternal, ?/?

Symptoms: I'm actually getting to a good place with symptoms now. I can't remember the last time I needed a nap, and I'm starting to wake up feeling well-rested having only woken once or twice in the night. Few foods sound icky these days, I mostly want to eat everything all the time, but having to have much smaller meals as I get fuller faster. That's pretty much it. I feel very lucky to have escaped the first tri with no sickness!

AW/Appointments/Ultrasounds: Nothing until March.

Questions/Comments/Concerns: Everything is a question or a concern right now as I've not even known there are two for a week yet (still giggling), but I'm getting lots of reading done before I bombard the board with my questions!

QOTW: What do you think will be your favorite part of having twins? Most challenging? I'm so glad that they'll always have a close sibling and won't get lonely. I do have a step-daughter but she's sixteen and she'll be off to university before these LOs can start to get to know her properly. I know they'll be close to her one day, but it's so great that they won't have to wait a long time to have that special sibling relationship. The most challenging thing in my head right now is how I'll cope with two when I'm on my own out and about, but that's really just a logistics thing that I'm sure I'll get used to quickly after all the FTM panic subsides. It's carting them to and from as infants that worries me, and then eventually chasing after two as toddlers!

Symptoms: Some fatigue, still hungry a lot, but overall, I've been feeling pretty good lately. Whoever was on my sciatic nerve got off, and the relief is AMAZING.

AW/Appointments/Ultrasounds: Regular OB last Wednesday, I saw one of the doctor's I'm not crazy about. He admitted he was rushing since they had to reschedule appointments due to the snow and apologized when I called him out on it. I made him go back with the doppler so I could hear the heartbeats. (Then one of the girls kicked him the second time. GOOD.) Then the endocrinologist on Friday (my thyroid levels were a little off early on) and everything looks good there, so he doesn't need to see me for two months unless my GD test comes back positive.

Questions/Comments/Concerns: We're finally starting to make some progress on the nursery, slowly but surely!

QOTW: What do you think will be your favorite part of having twins? Most challenging? I think my favorite part will be they'll always have someone to play with/talk with/etc., but on the flip side, our house is big enough that they can probably separate for a bit any time they need time apart. Most challenging, everything! These are our firsts, so we have no idea what we're doing!

julie216, have you tried almond milk for the heartburn? It has an enzyme in it that helps with the acid. It didn't take care of the symptom completely for me, but it would help hold me over between doses of medicine.

Symptoms: so tired, dizzy, and horrible headaches that have lasted a few days now

AW/Appointments/Ultrasounds: Just had an u/s this morning. Both babies looked great! And they actually look like babies now!!!

Questions/Comments/Concerns: Dealing with these headaches is a concern. So painful and I don't really know what to do about it.

QOTW: What do you think will be your favorite part of having twins? Most challenging?
I think the most challenging thing will be managing new babies along with our toddler.

Weeks/Fruit: 28w6d / Eggplant

Symptoms: Heartburn, and does leaking amniotic fluid count as a symptom?

AW/Appointments/Ultrasounds: We got a measurement on Sunday, and both babies were estimated around 2 lbs 9 oz. Three weeks ago, they were about 1 lb 11 oz each, so that's some good growth. It's also a really great sign that my boy is keeping up with my girl on growth, since he's been so low on fluid for the past 6 weeks.
If I make it to 30w, I'll get another dose of steroids! This goal feels really attainable right now.

Questions/Comments/Concerns:
Other than the steady stream of amniotic fluid and blood coming out of my vagina? Nope, all good. Seriously though, all things considered, babies are doing well and tracking good heartbeats.

QOTW: What do you think will be your favorite part of having twins? Most challenging?
Favorite? After years of trying, I am so happy to be *this close* to bringing not one, but two babies home. I grew up with 3 brothers and a sister, and I've always known that I wanted more than one child. This pregnancy might be my only shot at it. I feel very lucky that my babies will each instantly have a sibling.
Most Challenging? Everything! Getting pregnant took so long, I'm now a 38 yr old woman, married 10 years to a 40 yr old man, and we pretty much have no idea what we're doing. Being on bed rest for the past 9 weeks has only added to the stress, since I'm unable to do a lot of preparation first hand like I'd like. (I'm missing out on preparing the nursery; I had to cancel the birth, new born and breast feeding classes I signed up for; I can't visit day cares in person until I'm out of the hospital; I can't interview pediatricians in person; I can't cook freezer meals; I can't train my work replacement; - It's all kinds of frustrating).

Mine are transverse and breach as well. I'm 28 weeks 4 days and today my doctor told me not to worry about that yet. He said there's still time for them to move

Weeks/Fruit: 11 weeks, Brussels sprouts

Symptoms: started having some really weird twinges/pains this week that are positively FREAKING me out. I'm fairly certain they are round ligament pain, but it seems awfully early for that. Last night I was sitting in bed reading and realized I forgot to put lotion on my face so stood up quickly and got such a bad shooting pain (it only lasted 1-2 seconds) that I doubled over and gasped. Scared the bejeezus out of my husband and me. This morning there's a dull ache in the same spot (very lateral, about 1 inch medial to my left iliac crest) so I'm wondering if I somehow pulled something. In any case, I'm anxious and would like it to stop, please and thank you. Otherwise, symptoms have been SO much better! I'm finally interested in my normal, healthy foods again. Drank a green smoothie for breakfast this morning (it was divine) and have Vegetable Chickpea Curry on in the crockpot for tonight!

AW/Appointments/Ultrasounds: NT scan on Friday. Keep your fingers crossed for me--this feels like a pretty major milestone.

Questions/Comments/Concerns: Has anyone else experienced round ligament pain this early? From everything I've read, it seems like more of a 2nd/3rd trimester symptom. It makes me nervous since my previous miscarriage was preceded by about 5 days of frequent, light cramping (though I don't remember it being so localized).

QOTW: What do you think will be your favorite part of having twins? Most challenging?
My favorite part will be never having an only child. It's always been very important to me that my children have siblings (no judgement whatsoever to those who choose to structure their families differently--we all do what we feel is best for our particular situation) and I love that they will each have one from the start. I also love that it gives me the option to be one and done, if I don't feel like dealing with this working pregnant woman thing again. I think the most challenging aspect will be finding ways to help my kids be individuals and not allow other to compare them, or to compare themselves.

amshark I'm so sorry you're having to deal with bedrest--that sounds like a serious challenge. I would be exactly the same in fretting over not being able to do all the "nesting" and prep things I wanted to accomplish. That said, WOOHOO for being almost to 29 weeks!! 28 weeks is a MAJOR milestone (at least at the hospital where I work) for good outcomes. Fingers crossed they stay in there a bit longer!

chiwifey Have you called your doctor about your headaches? I think there are some things beyond the basic Tylenol and hydration that they can offer for such serious cases.

Thanks purplegaloshes ! They seem to be letting up a bit and almost like they're sinus related today because I'm starting to have a runny nose etc. I think I'll give my OB a call today though just to see what she can suggest.

Most challenging? Oh man, as a first time mom (and an only child) I feel like I don't know anything. I've done some reading and I've signed up for classes, but I'm still really nervous about the first year with two newborns.

purplegaloshes, I had some of this in the first trimester. There were times when I would get pains low in my abdomen when coughing. It would be strong for a few minutes (felt like I pulled something) and then it would go away. I stopped getting them after awhile and they only recently started up again (though less frequently). My doctor didn't seem worried about it at the time, but if you are concerned you could call your doctor's office and see what he/she says?
