Exhaustedly starting this at 3 AM since LO is up again... seems like we could start another MOTN thread since so many of us are having extra wake up calls!
We were in Colombia earlier this year (Bogota and Cartagena). I loved it there.
That's awesome! How long were you in Bogota? We've been here 2 months but haven't done a lot of touristy stuff, found a few favorite restaurants and are just enjoying the city. I'm sure we'll make to to Cartagena at some point before we leave the country!
We were in Bogota about four days. We stayed north of the Zona Rosa and did a ton of walking around there, it was so interesting. We visited the Salt Cathedral, Mount Monserrate, La Candelaria (Museo Botero, Gold Museum) and Usaquen. I would love to go back someday - that city is truly a "hidden" gem for most Americans.
How is parenting viewed differently in Columbia vs. America?
You've described youraelf as sort of hippy natural before. How so?
Honestly, I don't really know any Colombians to compare. The weirdest difference I've noticed so far is the lack of babies outside. I thought I was getting weird looks for being American but my Spanish tutor said that it's because I wear the baby in an Ergo. I've been told that, for the most part, babies don't go outside for about the first 6 months. Since then I've noticed the only little babies I see are usually American or French.
I think I just fall a little more towards the crunchy side of parenting but I mostly can only compare with my family. We cloth diaper, extended BF, baby wear (we got a stroller when DD1 was 1 year old) are mostly vegetarian. My mom & I got in some debates about food and screen time when we were staying with them before coming to Colombia so they think I'm a crazy hippy.
Re vegetarianism, I was surprised at how veggie friendly Bogota was. I found a lot to eat there that was really good.
Barefoot - yes, we're trying to get better at leaving shoes by the door. There is so much dust and dirt here that I like to track in as little extra as possible. Our feet are black by the end of the day even though I mop (almost) every day.
More babies - no, birthing LO was quite the experience. I don't want to do it again. DH will probably get snipped when we are back in the US. If we had an oops #3 I wouldn't totally flip out though.
Carriers - I have 2 Ergos. One original one and one of the Adapt once to carry a little one without the insert.
