The on-call nurse last night seemed to think dd has croup. It has been a rough night. I am going to call the doctor when they open. Has anyone else's kiddo had a case of croup? How long did it last? Any remedies you can suggest? I gave her infants Advil and a cough syrup with elderberry. I also sat in the steamy bathroom with her and tried cool air. She gets about a half hour of sleep before waking up coughing. Poor baby. TIA.
No experience, sorry, just sending some thoughts of health over to your poor little one. Hope the doctor had some answers and solutions, and she feels better soon.

Judith had it last November. It was not a fun experience. She's on daily albuterol as a part of her regular treatments, and we bump up the dosings when she's sick, but that didn't cut it so they put her on an oral steroid. The steroid ultimately made the difference, and it drastically improved her symptoms.
I'd give your pedi a call this morning and get an appointment. For kids who aren't on a bronchodilator daily (albuterol, etc), sometimes treatments with that will be enough to open their airways and give some relief.
My friend's son has gotten it every February for the last three years, poor kid. We've never experienced it but it sounds terrible. I hope your daughter recovers quickly and gets some sleep at night-- I know that's been the tough part for my friend's son.
we've never had croup here, so no experience.. but I'm so sorry! Apparently I (and my brothers) had it ALL the time when we were little. My mom says it sucks! I hope she feels better real soon.

DDs daycare had a croup causing virus last winter. She never developed the barking cough (just hoarseness and mild cough) and didn't need steroids, but 3 of the kids in her class did get them. DD was also kind enough to share her virus with me, so breast milk probably helped her get over it quicker.
Pediacare makes a little plug-in vaporizer that seemed to help a lot at night.

Thanks for all your kind wishes everyone! The doctor said she doesn't have croup. She has an ear infection along and congestion with drainage. The drainage is causing the cough. We were given amoxcicilin and have a follow up in two weeks. If she gets worse I go in before then. DD is sleeping in her car seat right next to me. She fell asleep on the way home and I am not even attempting to move her until she wakes up. I'm so tired but can't sleep in the car. I must have my comfy bed.
