R's favorite book is little blue truck so we are going with that. Since I have a lot of little cousins and friends with older kids I'm going to do a bubble table and a coloring table and of course a piñata. Hopefully that'll be enough activities for 1-6 year olds
MH and I hashed everything out last night and came up with a plan we're comfortable with. Close family & friends, guest list of around 23 people (this just includes my immediate family and grandma from my side - most is MH's side of the family, but we will have just seen my entire side on Thanksgiving and will see them again at Christmas so I think that's fine). We can host a party that size in our house without it being too cramped, I think. We'll do a simple menu (sandwiches, salads, some appetizers, and cake). We love the idea of a giraffe theme! We won't go too crazy with the theme, just the invitations and maybe a few decorations. I do want to decorate his high chair and get cake smash pics!
Are you guys making one year baby books? I was thinking about making a shutterfly album with all his milestone and month pics but I also saw these today and they are so cute. www.lucydarling.com/collections/memory-book

Let me preface this by saying I know I'm going over board. But, I have already started a baby (memories) book that I am actually keeping updated very well (surprisingly). And, I plan to do a Shutterfly book at the end of every year for her. The memories book has more detailed information, explains developments every month, etc. And the Shutterfly book will be just pictures from NB-12 months.
DoesItComeInPink, thatgirlrachel, Yes I think I am going to make a shutterfly book too. I've been writing the milestones on his monthly pictures as we go. I just have to actually MAKE the photo album. A few friends used their one year photo album as their birthday party guest book and had everyone sign it which I think is a cute idea.
Overboard here as well and really similar to thatgirlrachel. I am keeping up with C's baby book (we have the Sophie the Giraffe one - link). We order prints periodically off Shutterfly to use throughout the book (and to hang up at work, give to family, etc.)... and we have wayyyy too many now, so we've decided to just put his monthly pics in the book (plus the themed pictures - first bath, first solid food etc.) and the rest of the prints in a traditional family photo album.
We also plan to do a Shutterfly photo book each year, capturing photos from the year, as a Christmas gift for C (so this Christmas he'll get a book of photos starting from the day he was born and ending with his first birthday party). I love the idea of him having a bookshelf full of these to look back on one day.

Life twins. I mostly put the monthly/milestone pictures in his baby book, and I have a separate plain pink photo album where I put all of the "extras". I can remember so many times that my mom would bring my baby book out when I was 6, 8, 10 years old, and being able to see those pictures was amazing to me. And, I want EG to be able to do the same.
I plan to do a shutterfly (or similar) book for each year and give a copy to each set of grandparents each year as a Christmas gift. We will also keep one for ourselves. It worked out well that he was born in October because I can get the whole year in and get it done before Christmas.
We have 3 (why, I will never know) baby books and not a single one has anything written in it. Nada. One has stuff from his NICU stay tucked in it at least, I guess. I am seriously the world's okayest mom.
I might add that the Shutterfly app always has free 4x6 or 4x4 prints (just pay shipping) so every once and a while I go and print off a shitload of pictures from my phone. I have hundreds of printed pictures. They don't always turn out great but I have them. I plan to hang them all over at his 1st birthday party. Cheap decorations.

I actually have the one with the elephant on the cover and it's amazing! I've mostly kept up with it and even have photos in it through 6 months. They're very simple and hats what I needed.

I actually got M the little artist one before she was born... It is currently blank, but I'll get around to it! I was actually pretty good about Clara's.

I have a Project Life baby book for R and I love it so much. I've kept up with writing in it but I'm the worst with getting pictures printed and added to it. At least that's something I can do later. I'm happy I kept up with F's baby book too. I read things in it often.

Yes! And the app pulls pictures straight from your phone, so one less step.

We are huge Little Blue Truck fans!

Yes! We have all of those except for the new Halloween one. We just looked at it at Walmart yesterday. I love them all. They are my favorites to read.

I also have the one with the elephant! I love that it's perfectly laid out and reminds me of the photos I need to take plus, it's cute and has extra pages for future milestones and things that aren't spelled out (first bike ride, etc.)
Did someone find deer/doe themed ideas, not too cutesy? I can't remember. We are still just having a small family party, but maybe I could try a little and plus also, my family will be in town for Christmas, so maybe we could celebrate it then.

I'll search-- I'm all about party planning for others

Excellent. I try not to pinterest... so I'm happy to have someone do it for me
So bummed, I called the cake place that we've had all our other special cakes made by and the owner said their cupcake business exploded, cakes were taking too long in the oven to meet cupcake demand so they now only do cupcakes. I know cupcakes can be used but I dunno, in my mind a birthday needs a CAKE. So sad right now

mistabinx, It saves so much time to do cupcakes-- i do both usually but for swarming kids, it's so easy to just hand off cupcakes vs waiting for cake to be sliced.

I'm glad this thread was resurrected! I contacted an Etsy shop owner to convert a pumpkin themed invite to a turkey themed invite for me and I'm in love.
She is also going to do a chalkboard poster for me, like the one below but with my theme.

Unknown, we are also doing winter onederland, and that was the exact outfit I picked out on Etsy! It was a little too pricey for me, personally (especially since she'll likely be covered in icing by the end of the party), but I might get just the personalized onesie with the snowflake and make my own tutu to save a little.
We ordered invitations from zazzle this week - it's a cute little penguin/snowflakes on one side and a picture of her on the other, so I figure people can use it as a 5 X 7 picture if they want to keep it. I've picked up a few snowflake decorations as I find them out and about. Hopefully it'll be a fun little party :-)
Okay, so DD's bday is on a Wednesday, so I am thinking of doing her party the Saturday after.
No smash cake, but we'll provide cake for the guests.
I was thinking of doing it at a restaurant in the afternoon. I was thinking I could order a variety of appetizers from the restaurant and then just have cake. Most of our guests know each other and are friends, so it will just really be hanging out/catching up and I think they are fine with that. No kids other than ours and my nephews (but they are like 6 & 8). Downside is I can't eat anything from the restaurant due to DD's intolerances (I think most of the guests know about her intolerances, so they would understand, but it feels odd).
Alternately, I could see about doing it at our Church and do it closer to dinner and bring in fried chicken and some sort of sides that I can eat, with cake for guests. Then I would do basic decorations. Still just casual hanging out no games, etc, but then way more work for me with food and cleanup (I'm tired and I would skip the party completely, but DH insists we do it). Can I do with with less food? Is just cake and drinks cutting it too much?
Thoughts on which might work better or what you'd prefer if you were invited or some other idea I should consider?
I am usually so on the ball with this stuff, but lack of sleep is just eating my brain power.
I would offer some sort of food even if it is just appetizers or homemade finger foods. I have been to birthdays that offered full spread meals and some that had things such as chips/dip, meatballs, etc. Do whatever is easiest for you. Something else to consider is what time is best for your LO as far as typical nap time.
We are doing a 1pm-3pm party serving lunch, but I know some others are doing mid-afternoon parties with finger foods.
Is there another restaurant you could do it at, where you could eat the food?
