We met in high school, actually. I am 2 years younger than him and I was dating his best friend! His friend actually was the officiant at our wedding :-)
I am lucky to have my family live so close to the school I teach at, so my mom will watch S Monday through Thursday and then my MIL will watch him at our house on Fridays. It makes the whole drop off so much easier! I did cry a little today though.
I like some aspects of common core and dislike some. For me, in adjusting to teaching common core, i had to teach more research. As a language arts teacher, it's my least favorite part to teach. The thing I love about common core is it emphasizes that literacy is everywhere and in every content. I am not the only one responsible for students knowing how to read and write. It also is a very student centered approach that requires inquiry and revision. However, I think that common core doesn't focus enough on literature and doesn't address gaps in knowledge.
I have been teaching for 6 years. It is a second career for me. After college I was a restaurant manager and into hospitality.
I have two pugs. One is 11 and one is 7. We also had a terrier mix, but the younger pug and the terrier mix had some sort of blood feud or something and couldn't even look at each other after living together peacefully for 3 years. We ended up giving the terrier mix to my parents. She still runs up to us and loves on us when we see her.
To relax, I do a lot of yoga. I also like to bake if I have time. My specialties are pies!
I get a lot of my clothes from Stitch Fix bc I hate shopping for clothes. But I have a slight obsession with Target for some reason. I can never get out of there without spending at least $100 it seems like.
The last thing I bought for myself was an 18 month planner from The Happy Planner and some stickers to decorate it. Oh, and a calendar for my classroom that is pictures of dog faces underwater. It's so funny!
I actually hate cooking and H does all the cooking in our house. He is an amazing cook! When I cook, though, it's usually macaroni and cheese or sloppy joes.
I love to dance, but I'm terrible at it. One of my favorite things about teaching is getting with other teachers who dance terribly and putting on a show for the kids at our assemblies and celebrations at school.
I have 10 toes, but I am missing the tip of a finger. When I was 2 my older sister slammed my finger on the hinge side of my dad's office. The door closed completely and all of my fingers recovered but the tip of my right pinky got cut off by the hinge.
I believe the square root of -9 is 3i? Negative numbers get the i right? I could be way off bc it's too long since I've used any math aside from simple addition or plugging numbers into a spreadsheet.
ETA: my favorite parenting moment is when he laughed for the first time. I caught a picture of his face and it's my favorite picture ever. But that's too mushy...I think the best thing that's happened since S was born is I went out to lunch with my mom and sisters and MH had cleaned out the diaper bag and put everything back but the diapers. Now S is a once a week pooper, maybe twice a week if we are lucky. So he had a huge blowout. Poop was coming out of his clothes. My mom was holding him at the time she had poop everywhere, and we had no diapers. I was so pissed at H at the time, but now I laugh about it bc I brought S out of the restroom, diaper less and finished my lunch.
